I played ZE:VLR up to about 4 hours on my Vita and got a game over screen and immediately looked online as to why and just realized this game has branching points with different endings, some bad, some filler and true. Now I heard it's recommended to play Zero Escape:999(Only for DS) first as it makes playing through VLR much better and sheds some light on more things. I was tempted to go cop a 3DS for this game but I think I can rock with it on my phone via DS emulator. :wow: The story in the game really got me like :lupe:

I bought 999 and started playing it and at the time I bought it couldn't find VLR at any store locally so I ordered it online. I beat 999 in a couple days and VLR took so long to ship out I bought a copy on PSN cause i had to play it right after 999. I basically spend $80 on VLR and the game was so good I wasn't even mad. still have an unopened Vita copy right now.

There's a huge plot twist in VLR that will be totally lost on you if you didn't play 999 actually there's a couple of them but the one I'm talking about is like central to the game and it'll be a total dud if you play VLR before 999. If you haven't finished 999 I'd do that first.

What kind of game is this? I know I've heard the title before, but know shyt else about it.
It's a visual novel/puzzle game... Sort of like the Phoenix Wright games on the ds. The story is really intriguing and I had to pause what I'm playing on the vita version just so I can go back and play the first title for purposes of making the experience more satisfying when I continue.

Sort of like The Walking Dead and other Telltale games are. Telltale games have higher budgets but they're basically in the mold of visual novels where you have a story and choose from branching paths.

Honestly though i'd hold off on playing them because they're making a third game in the series and if you get into this series and like it the wait for the next game will be brutal. the ending to Virtue's Last Reward is very much a cliffhanger in the sense that while the game wraps up its own plot nicely the conclusion of that plot is merely a setup for the next game.

also don't skip 999 because Virtue's Last Reward drops heavy bombs at the end of the game that if you didn't play 999 will not be as impactful and will be totally lost on you. basically a good chunk of the plot twist on the sequel depend on you playing the prequel first.

also VLR is a game that to get the full story you have to beat it multiple times but you don't have to replay the full game you can jump to any decision point and choose a different option and see what you missed. many of the paths are dead ends that the endings give you insight to the full story and as you unlock more endings you eventually gain access to the true path.

999 is quite different. you have to play through the full game multiple times but you can fast forward anything you've seen. honestly i used a guide to beat 999 cause you have to beat it at least twice to see the real ending and it requires you do specific things in the previous playthrough like getting the true ending to Persona 5 Golden.

Yo I just beat this game for the 5th time to get the true ending. The story to this game is fukking profound. My head is literally throbbing from the pain of mental exercise that it partook in. So much twists, revelations, and outright crazy shyt transpired in that final ending that whoever plays this game and foolishly thinks they're done with it after merely being greeted with the first game over screen is doing themselves a monumental disservice.

:mindblown:

This is my expressions throughout the final hours of the final ending.
