I think it has more to do with ball movement, even though the defense has gotten better.

theres a lot more off ball movement and less watching IT work off predictable pick and rolls.
cavs are actually terrible with off ball defense. lebron sleeps, kevin love sleeps, kyrie sleeps. tristan thompson and jr and iman pick up a lot of the slack on help defense.

That's how u beat the cavs..i been saying it since the playoffs but the eastern conference guards george, lowery, derozan, wall, beal and isiash are ball hogs who hold the ball 17 seconds out the shot clock while nikkas stay in the corner looking
