By Keith Idec

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut – The Gervonta Davis-Leo Santa Cruz undercard is now complete.

BoxingScene.com has learned that two fights that were supposed to be part of the Showtime Pay-Per-View event Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena have been placed on the Davis-Santa Cruz card.

In one of those fights, San Antonio’s Mario Barrios (25-0, 16 KOs) will defend his WBA world 140-pound championship against Houston’s Ryan Karl (18-2, 12 KOs) in a 12-rounder. The other addition is a 12-round IBF lightweight elimination match in which Las Vegas’ Diego Magdaleno (32-3, 13 KOs) will meet Mexico’s Isaac Cruz (19-1-1, 14 KOs).

Showtime Pay-Per-View also will distribute the Davis-Santa Cruz event.

The site of the Davis-Santa Cruz card has not been determined. Its promoters are exploring sites beyond Mohegan Sun in hopes that at least a limited number of fans can attend.

Barrios-Karl and Magdaleno-Cruz were initially announced as part of Saturday’s show, which will feature Jermall Charlo and Jermell Charlo in main events versus Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Jeison Rosario, respectively (7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT; $74.95). The Luis Nery-Aaron Alameda and John Riel Casimero-Duke Micah fights replaced Barrios-Karl and Magdaleno-Cruz on Saturday’s six-fight show.

In addition to the Barrios-Karl and Magdaleno-Cruz contests, the Davis-Santa Cruz undercard will include a junior welterweight bout between former WBA champion Regis Prograis and Juan Heraldez.

New Orleans’ Prograis (24-1, 20 KOs) hasn’t fought since he lost a 12-round majority decision to Josh Taylor (16-0, 12 KOs) in their 140-pound title unification fight last October 26 at O2 Arena in London. Heraldez (16-0-1, 10 KOs), of North Las Vegas, Nevada, last fought in May 2019, when he settled for a 10-round majority draw with the Dominican Republic’s Argenis Mendez (25-5-3, 12 KOs, 1 NC) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Barrios, 25, will fight for the first time since his close, unanimous-decision victory over Russia’s Batyr Akhmedov (8-1, 7 KOs) last September 28 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Karl, 28, has won three straight fights since Kevin Watts stopped him in the fifth round of their April 2018 bout in El Paso, Texas, including a fifth-round knockout of Watts (12-4, 5 KOs) in their immediate rematch.

Magdaleno, 33, won a 10-round unanimous decision against Austin Dulay (13-2, 10 KOs, 1 NC) in his last fight, February 15 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, Dulay’s hometown. Cruz, 22, extended his winning streak to eight by beating Cleveland’s Thomas Mattice (15-2-1, 11 KOs) by majority decision in his most recent action, a 10-rounder February 14 at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

In the main event, Baltimore’s Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) and Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KOs), of Rosemead, California, will fight for Santa Cruz’s WBA “super” 130-pound championship and Davis’ WBA world 135-pound crown in a 12-round, 130-pound title bout.

LSC by decision if he labors through the first 4-5 rounds without getting knocked out. I think he does. Tank gets less dangerous as the rounds pass cause he gasses, I think he will be even more gassed at 130, possibly drained, and I trust in LSC's skills and chin enough to think he gets by those dangerous early rounds.
An early Tank KO is entirely possible too.
