2. Black people were/are mad that Kobe sexed that white girl and married a Hispanic wmn...

3. Kobe isn't from "the hood", speaks Italian/Spanish, there's nothing visibly ghetto about his life, no outward "struggle", etc.


Kobe has never done/said anything to distance himself from his race. He's just a dude who embodies being more of a universal figure, rather than just being black. And he doesnt seem to care about anything but basketball

All things considered, I thought Bean got off pretty light for that rape sht. People hardly ever bring it up nowadays, and he got all his endorsements back...you could tell that most of the press and the general public didnt even believe her story off top, while the story was developing. I think they treated kobe way closer to a white athlete, than a black one. You imagine if A.I was accused of raping a blonde white chick in colorado like that? A big part of the reason why he's no longer a media darling is becuz of that case. A big reason why his interviews are constant soundbites is becuz of that rape case. It is kind of weird how the media, that loves to hold on to everything an athlete ever did (look at ray lewis) has basically forgotten about kobe's rape case. to kobe for overcoming that shyt I guess.

Sure, it naturally received blanket coverage, but it wasnt racialized in the way that way we have grown accustomed and expect. I never felt that oppressive, lynch mob environment that I feel when white America or the press goes in on a black celebrity or athlete. He was criticized, and rightfully so given that at best he was cheating on his wife, but there wasnt that pathological rage from white america.

Let me ask...who do you think got it worse from the press....Kobe for being arrested and charged with rape, or Lebron for "the decision"? And to add to that, Lebron is a niqqa to the press. Looks black, black wife, openly embraces hip hop culture (and not that weird lil underground rap phase that kobe went thru early on and then dropped quickly)

I think Kobe transcends race, and the fact that he has always held black and urban culture at arms length has aided white America in feeling that way. Just my opinion tho.

1. Kobe has been the most popular player according to his poll for 6 of the last 7 years.
2. He has been the most popular athlete among African Americans in 2 of the last 3 Harris Polls (which if another pollster).

All this poll seems to show is nikkas are more likely to be bandwagon fans than others. They rode with Kobe when he was winning titles. Now they are riding with Bron. Its still interesting that a 34 year old injured 2-guard who hasn't been to the finals is still neck and neck with the reigning 2 time MVP/Finals MVP. This is the height of LeBron's popularity and he's still only slightly more popular than Kobe.

There was another poll by Harris which showed that in 2009 and 2010, he was the most popular ATHLETE among blacks and hispanics. Now LeBron is the most popular.
