No national championship but still finish out with a W.
Anyone know when Last Chance U comes back for Season 2?
Netflix's Last Chance U season 2 will highlight these five players
The popular Netflix documentary series Last Chance U
has been renewed for another season and will film this fall. That means another season at East Mississippi Community College following around tempestuous head coach Buddy Stephens, another season watching academic advisor Brittany Wagner jump through hoops trying to keep her players qualified and another season of my wife pining over quarterbacks coach Clint Trickett.
But while some of the staples of the show will remain the same, junior college rosters turn over quickly and that means we'll be following the journey of a new crop of players in season two.
Granted, we can't predict the Ronald Ollies of the show — the wildcards who get air time because of their personality and less because of their ability — but in looking at the roster, here are the five most likely protagonists in Last Chance U's second season.
The Veterans
Isaiah Patrick, WR/RB – If you watched season one, you saw flashes of Patrick. As a freshman, he came in for
Dacorius Lawand made some huge plays. The Alabama native out of Florence High School rushed for 483 yards in 2015 and holds an offer from Auburn.
Brooks Shannon, WR – East Mississippi likes to distribute the football to a lot of wide receivers. Shannon got a taste of that last year with 270 yards receiving as a freshman. He'll be one of the primary targets though in his sophomore season. Southern Miss is currently his only scholarship offer.
The Newcomers
De'Andre Johnson, QB – EMCC is replacing one Florida State (John Franklin III) transfer with another in Johnson. This time though, the FSU transfer is likely to win the starting job. Jimbo Fisher kicked Johnson off the football team after striking a woman in a bar during his freshman year in Tallahassee. On the field though, he's extremely accurate and should be a good fit in that EMCC offense. The Netflix show is a great opportunity for Johnson to rehabilitate his reputation off the field more so than on it. Johnson was the No. 13 dual-threat QB in the class of 2015 and a three star recruit per the 247Sports Composite.
Chauncey Rivers, DL – Rivers would be playing a significant role at Georgia this fall if he could just stay away from the weed. Marijuana arrests acted as his ticket to Scooba where he'll have no choice but to get focused on football if he wants to continue to play it at a high level. A four-star recruit out of high school, Rivers should be a beast if he can stay on the field.
Dakota Allen, LB –Allen finds himself at East Mississippi after being kicked off the team at Texas Tech for burglary charges. Allen had 87 tackles for the Red Raiders in the fall but was arrested in the spring for his role in the theft that included a safe full of guns. Talented and highly-recruited out of high school, Allen will hope to catch the eye of FBS college coaches once again but those coaches will be more interested in his behavior off the field than his play on it. Allen was the No. 30 inside linebacker prospect in the class of 2014.
