Change title to 40%. They aren't 40x more valuable. Big global tech companies are always going to be extremely valuable while they are putting out great products. They have 100's of thousand of employees who are also themselves probably doing better than an even higher percentage of almost any city.

Revenue is a better comparison to GDP. Apple and other tech companies sit on mountains of cash though that many cities do not possess. It's crazy how much of America's GDP is dominated by metro centers compared to rural ones.
