When blacks were shipped to this country, THEY WERE BANNED FROM READING BOOKS.

They were also BANNED FROM SPEAKING THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGES AND PRACTICING THEIR RELIGION

They were also MADE TO CHANGE THEIR AFRICAN NAMES TO ENGLISH ONES

Their culture was SYSTEMATICALLY TAKEN FROM THEM, so that they could be controlled easier.

In the carribean, blacks were allowed to practice a lot of their religions and practices to a far larger extent than their American bretheren. While the slavery there was also very brutal, despite it they were able to create a piecemeal culture based on a mixture on old practices and new world experiences. This culture enabled many blacks in the Americas and the Carribean to form a common identity, which forms both a source of pride as well as solidarity. Both things that helped them deal with the harsh realities of racism and white supremacy.

Perhaps you should ask you grandparents on how blacks were treated during their day to get a better understanding on what American blacks went through, because clearly you know very little about the history of your country. and fukk your history teachers by the way.
