Best horror director of all time?

I have been thinking about this for a bit and I'm pretty sure I know the consensus but just to get an idea. Who do y'all think it is?

Tough category to rate. Not too many directors exclusively do horror films...and the ones that do typically aren’t that good. If I had to chose someone, it would probably be John Carpenter...though I could easily be persuaded towards Wes Craven.

Hmmm..

James whale definitely in the classic era. But the modern periods..there is not a single number 1..they share that accolade.

Carpenter, craven, argento, Romero, Gordon etc.

When it’s all said and done probably Ari Aster. But right now? Probably between Carpenter and craven but they’ve both had some really bad movies in between their classics
