This is not a big deal. She maybe mixed with black, but she is Japanese culturally. She knows nothing or very little about Black American Culture.

The debate is biased. Some posters are looking at this situation from an american perspective.

Japan has been westernized since WWII, but it's still not the West.

The vast majority of Japanese think that Japan is the country of Japanese (the ethnicity). The citizenship (or the nationality) is just the result of an administrative operation, but in order to be a "real" Japanese, you need to have the boodline.

Japanese don't disconnect nationality and ethnicity, like Americans do.

So she's right but she's wrong.
