Clues about the victim indicate he is Catholic, or identifies with Catholic, so Italian, Mexican, Central or South American is a good guess, likely the more prominent NY ethnicities. Male, so likely a male killer, or killers. Duct tape around the face is common in Mexican drug violence, along with signs of torture, bruising to the face, cuts around the body, burn marks. I'd think you can rule out domestic crime, or crime of passion, the wrapping of the face indicates lack of personal attachment to victim, and is not part of concealing a crime, (the way the concrete would be ) it's pure degradation and torture, or simply standard operating procedure. I'd think the killers wouldn't be first time, or they were imitating what they saw in the news, or saw in their own lives.
