Nas made Tupac music less emotionally and more lyrically.

So him.

Seriously, I'm not sure what to say exactly, since Pac dead as shyt. I do know he never made an album as good as Illmatic, and I know that his final album wasn't as good as Nas's project the same year.
You don't KNOW that,YOU FEEL THAT WAY. But you're imo, pac's first album is as good or better than illmatic

Let me sum it up for ya :youngsabo:

even the general consensus would include the 3 albums he did between 1994 and 1996 as GOAT candidates - and the only reason Thug Life isn't included in that discussion is because it was critically overlooked for being released as a group album - in actuality compare Illmatic to Thug Life: Volume 1 - song for song, I'll wait :youngsabo: At this point you should be done listening to both albums, now doesn't that put it into perspective as to where these albums rank - Tupac's has an enduring sound while Illmatic sounds like it's from a time and place. Song for song, good luck with the mental gymnastics to uphold your generic status quo "GOAT album". Thug Life is classic, song for song it's essential listening and each song stands on it's own - the songs of Illmatic are more of a package deal where the project is acclaimed as a whole. Just about any song on Thug Life is essential listening and could be placed in the upcoming biopic, none of the songs would be out of place on a collection of his greatest work and the album as a whole lot aged better - once again, despite the
NY-publication-derived status quo sheep opinion you have a hard time comparing these albums favorably - even with the track listings being about the same size - song for song, I implore you to give it a go

With Tupac's catalog you're more likely to have a legitimate argument on what his greatest album is, case closed

from a personal perspective, Me Against the World . . can you name me an album with a personal theme that is better? Anything more introspective?

All Eyez on Me is as ambitious as a project can be. It is a blockbuster magnum-opus album. The album you can comfortably choose if you could only bring one album when you're sent to a deserted island

The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory from a critical perspective is the greatest thing hip-hop has to offer

All 4 of the aforementioned albums surpass anything in Nas's catalog by a significant margin - to keep it real Illmatic is arguably competitive with the Thug Life album - each of the three other albums significantly pass it in stature alone. The Illmatic is a great album but it's status comes from status quo and traditionalism that is derivedfrom bias New York publications

Tupac's work overall largely transcends the genre. His discography is the greatest thing hip-hop has to offer, it is the crowning achievement of our culture and is something that we can point to when discussing the merits of hip-hop songwriting and the respect of our art form

This takes precedence over your perceived "lyricism" . . Songwriting. To not understand this is a terrible detriment to our culture and undermines the realization of our art form as an artistic craft

And to make matters more conclusive, Nas his lived 20 years beyond Tupac and not only is there still a discussion . . but he hasn't come close to surpassing him. Quite simply, there isn't a credible argument that puts Nas over Tupac . . And he had over 20 years to create that separation

And you had the audacity to call other people stans

Also I feel like Illmatic is the best rap album for snobs and rap elites. It is a great album no doubt. But is it an organic classic? Reminds me of Kendrick albums. Great art but is it something that touches you instinctively.
All semantics aside, even without consideration that Tupac passed on at 25, Tupac's discography is levels above and beyond Nas in both consistency and depth. The quality of Tupac's catalog reaches a whole 'nother magnitude then the offerings of Nas.

From 1994 - 1996

- Thug Life: Volume 1
- Me Against the World
- All Eyez on Me
- The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory

^
during those two years alone, from 1994-1996 - he dropped four albums that were top to bottom (from start to finish) full of legendary tracks. Tupac's consistency beats Ray Allen at the free throw line.

Tupac is that 30 PPG scorer, even the latter portion of his posthumous catalog (which was misproduced) is like a 20 PPG "Floor Jordan" coming back with the Wizards - yet still leading his team. Nas is more like Karl Malone, he played longer but he was never putting up Jordan numbers

If you were to make a starting team of their best songs, with a depth chart (Madden style) -the second tier of Tupac's catalog is still above Nas, which means Tupac's team beats Nas with it's second and third stringers. Tupac by far has the greatest catalog in hip-hop, the offerings of Tupac's posthumous catalog beats Nas by a considerable margin

If you want a fair comparison on Tupac's catalog you need to look outside the genre of hip-hop, here album artists like Al Green, Marvin Gaye and The Beatles could give Tupac a run for his money. I'd say The Beatles beat out Tupac but you have to consider that all of Tupac's work was done during a 4 year period from 1992-1996, while The Beatles were basically around for most of the 60s
That's a great four album run. Absolutely correct to include Thug Life, that album is masterful. No one does emotion as well as PAC.

Yep. But not into NY rap like I was the west. I did come to illmatic later and really do appreciate it. I think it is great. But mostly as a museum piece. Where as PAC I likd from day one. I just connect easier.

First of all, I stan no rapper. If you're not able to provide sensible reasoning to back up your position it is likely you who is the delusional stan

When you're on the right side of the argument the facts write themselves, you don't have to rack your brain to get a viable argument. The facts are already there. If you're not able to do that but yet you still want to put forth your position without being able to put-up any argument than it is you who is putting forth an idea that lives only in your head, yet you see it as reality because it's what you believe but that's textbook delusion:upsetfavre:

Right.

And if you really wanna get into compare the two of them rapping about the same concept.

Nas jotted that shyt down in a notepad over the course of 3 years.

Pac just stepped into the booth like :russell: and spit Me & My Girlfriend in 15 minutes....proceeded to record the whole Makaveli album in 3 days.

That shyt was imprinted on Pac's soul.He didn't have to sit in the studio for 6 months, brainstorming "smart/clever" shyt to say like most "artist".

Just hit it, head-on, and hash it out from the gut.

It was small fries for Pac....His table scraps gave birth to Jay & Beyonce being the "power couple" we know them as.
