I'm sure I'm wasting my breath but whatever....
Revolution is very seldom without bloodshed and fukked up shyt, and I nor anyone else is saying it's right or that we should respect THOSE things about him. But you can't be so fukkin dense as to sit there and deny the good things and the good work that was done. Cubans were actually on the ground fighting the Cold War from Latin America to Africa and oftentimes Fidel's troops were on the right side. The Cuban legacy in Angola alone is a powerful testament to the better merits of the revolution. How do you play a part in ending apartheid and helping Mandela/ANC but this is the only drivel you can come up with in regards to the man?
Not to make light but given that we're in the Coli I'll make this comparison. Fidel is very much like Al Davis. At one point a brilliant man that boldly took the reigns of control, stood up against authority on many occasions, stood up for others on the world stage. But he held on way too long and was very ruthless in order to maintain order and control. Ultimately, while healthcare and education are exemplary given Cuba's economic deprivation his revolution didn't fully solve the issue of race on the island and the irony is that the island has similarities to pre-revolution with the poverty, lowkey prostitution, and surely we don't fully know who's become rich from the state owned enterprises, if anyone has at all.
So again, no one is denying his flaws but he's been on the right side of things on more than one occasion for me to respect and what he represented in this world.
You can take any oppressive leader and say "well he did some good things"
German people could look back and say "yeah I know hitler killed millions of Jews but we had great healthcare back then"
