That said they had the opportunity to do something with Cycloops instead of making him a magneto clone, and it would have been nice to see them take it to the limit.

J. Whedon's doing, imo. His take on Scott was the first in forever that not only re-established cyclops as an assertive strong leader. But showed how badass the character can be in the right hands. But after that new writers kept writing him bigger and badder, until now his personality is basically the scene in Furious 7 when they were jumping between buildings.

People forget. But before Astonishing X-Men, the trend was to write Scott as wimpy, whiny, indecisive as hell. But still the leader.
