The bizarre case of a missing 12-year-old Detroit boy was resolved Wednesday when police found him in his father’s basement, a happy resolution after cops feared the boy dead after disappearing 11 days ago.

Charlie Bothuell V was found unharmed in the basement in the 1300 block of Nicolet Place, but was happy to see officers when they found him behind a makeshift barricade constructed of boxes and barrel drums, Chief James Craig told reporters.

Just 90 minutes before the startling discovery, Craig had told reporters at a press conference that new evidence pointed to the possibility that the boy had been murdered.

The boy was taken to the hospital for evaluation and will be interviewed by police.

"I've never seen anything quite like this," Craig said. “He was nervous, but excited. He indicated he was hungry. He appeared fine.”

There was also bedding nearby the barricade in the basement, but cops don’t think Charlie was hiding downstairs the entire time since he first went missing June 14.

Charlie disappeared that evening after telling his father and stepmother he was working out and had stopped to use the bathroom, WDIV-TV reported.

The boy’s father, Charlie Bothuell IV, appeared on “Nancy Grace” to appeal to people to search for his boy. And the dad even underwent a police-administered polygraph, though the stepmother refused to take the test.

Police said they questioned both guardians extensively.

The elder Charlie addressed reporters after hearing the good news.

“I thought my son was dead, man!” the man said as he burst into tears and hugged a WDIV newscaster and sobbed into the reporter’s shoulder.

“I’m shocked. I looked. The Detroit police looked. The FBI looked,” the dad told the media once he had composed himself. “To imply that I knew my son was in the basement is absurd.”

The man said his wife, the boy’s stepmother, was also unaware the boy was in the house. The woman did not speak to reporters after the news was announced.

Charlie Bothuell V said the boy had run away before, and he hinted at some behavioral issues for the preteen.

“Obviously he came to live with me because he had some challenges,” the dad said. “He needs a whole lot of help at this point.”

"I've never seen anything quite like this," Detroit Police Chief James Craig told CNN affiliate WXYZ.

"We found him barricaded in the basement, behind boxes and a large five-gallon drum. There's no way he could have erected this makeshift area of concealment."

:ohhh:

Doesn't mean she's guilty. I know my mom would refuse. She'd consider it an complete insult that somebody would even think that she would do such a thing:manny:

But @truck jewelry said breh failed his polygraph, can we get a confirmation on that:patrice:
