Defense se Secretary Chuck Hagel is stepping down, a senior administration official said Monday, opening the way for a new Pentagon leader to confront evolving national security challenges in the final two years of President Obama’s term.
Obama was expected to announce Hagel’s resignation in the Rose Garden on Monday morning but the official said the president doesn’t plan to name a successor right away.
