UPDATE x 2: Here are some additional details on Alberto Del Rio's WWE release. A source reports that Del Rio was, as has been heavily reported, fired after slapping a WWE social media employee. That employee is Cody Barbierri, the WWE's Manager of Social Media Live Events, and the incident occurred last week on the night of the Smackdown tapings (August 5th). The source notes that Barbierri did in fact make a racist joke about Del Rio's job being to clean plates. One performer for the company notes that the firing wasn't as much about the slap but how hard it was, enough to knock Barbierri to the ground and causing a major scene.

Del Rio was told after the incident that he would be suspended until just past SummerSlam, but the belief is that Barbierri threatened to sue the company and that forced the company's hands for legal reasons. Triple H called Del Rio on August 7th to let him know and Del Rio was reportedly furious.

According to sources, Barbierri isn't well-liked backstage because he frequently talks down to the talent, but he is a high-ranking person in the company and has the support of the McMahon family.
constantly talking down to the talent and the one time someone checks him, that man gets fired :smh:
Doesnt look like this geek is going to get the boot :mjpls:

@krackdagawd :beli:

In the end...Del Rio wins regardless. Continuing to get paid on the company dime while not actually having to work for them anymore. :salute:
I say they should let him keep the name and this ice cold theme song :whoo:

then call it even.....probably wont happen:ufdup:

my only problem with him going to AAA is the roster is the definition of CAW....doesnt help they dont use in-house entrance music

@Konnan yall gotta do better :why:

They actually can't legally do this. They tried to do the same thing to Lesnar when he wanted to work for NJPW and he ended up suing them and forcing them to settle. The judge basically laughed WWE's arguments ("our territory is the entire world!") out of court. I'd think that something along the same lines would occur of WWE pressed the issue and Del Rio decided to fight it.

Alberto Del Rio and AAA President Joaquin Roldan held a press conference today in Mexico City with Hugo Savinovich being the host.

ADR said that AAA is his new home where he plans on staying for the immediate future. ADR did say that he would no longer use that name in particular saying that WWE owns the trademark to that name and that he will now use "El Patron" which was used as a nickname by Ricardo Rodriguez during his ring introductions in the past and on the Spanish commentary.

El Patron said that he won't be able to wrestle in AAA for the at least 90 days but he is trying his best to get his lawyers to get an injunction to allow him to wrestle at Triplemania XXII on Sunday, which of course is to get heat on WWE for not letting him work.

El Patron said that when he is able to compete in AAA that he wants to face whoever is the AAA Mega Heavyweight Champion and called out Hijo del Texano specifically so it looks like he will be a tecnico.

El Patron was asked about the details regarding his firing by WWE and he said that he couldn't talk about it due to legal issues but said that he would talk about it more in a couple of weeks.

El Patron was also asked about the rumors of Rey Misterio Jr. being unhappy in WWE and wanting to return to AAA and he said that he doesn't really know about that situation which is where Joaquin Roldan stepped in and said that Misterio is still under contract with WWE and as long as that is the case then AAA will not tamper with him but if something would happen down the road then he would be open to him returning to promotion.

While appearing on talk shows in Mexico today, Alberto Del Rio noted that he cannot wrestle in the United States for a year. He admitted there was a confrontation with a WWE employee but did not go into any great detail.

That would likely mean he was found to be in breach of his WWE contract. When a WWE talent is found in breach, they are informed that they will no longer be paid additional revenue due to them past the day of the breach (including royalties due for PPV, licensing, etc.) and that as a penalty of the breach, they cannot compete in pro wrestling or MMA for a period of one year.

PWInsider.com has reached out to WWE regarding the circumstances of Del Rio's departure and his advertised appearance for AAA in Mexico this weekend, but given that it's Summerslam weekend, it's not likely we will hear back immediately.
