I thought it’d be fun and informative to go over some fashion history. I will do 22 designer profiles on the most universally acclaimed designers. I will focus the first 10 profiles on the cult fashion houses, the first profile being on Louis Vuitton.

Founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton in Paris, France, the brand originally focused on crafting high end canvas trunks and luggage for the French elite. What made Vuitton’s trunks different from other trunk makers was that his trunks featured a flat top which allowed them to be stacked for easier storage. His most popular trunk, the Trianon was introduced in 1858 and featured gray canvas.

The flat top trunk was a revolutionary innovation at the time which lead to many competitors copying the design. To set himself apart from his imitators, Vuitton began incorporating an LV monogram and damier print which has become the signature trademark and logo for the company today.

Today, The House of Loius Vuitton creates luxury trunks, leather goods, ready to wear clothing, jewelry accessories, and handbags. Despite having a vast range of products, Louis Vuitton handbags and trunks remain the most popular items. The most popular handbags are the Keepall, the Speedy (a smaller version of the Keepall), the Alma, Noé, and the Neverfull.

Very interesting and informative OP. If you're into podcasts, you might be interested in the "dressesd" podcast. They talk about fashion history and had a podcast on Louis Vuitton recently as well .

I'd like more pictures of handbags too! Whichever one's you'd like to pick out .

I prefer their plain leather bags over the monogram or canvas ones.

Lockit

I’m not into the lockit bags at all, they’re not attractive to me.

This is one of their ugliest bags (in my opinion) it’s also very popular with ig models so it’s definitely a trendy piece not an investment piece. They retail for around $2300 if you wanted to sell it in five years, you’d be lucky to get $800.
Kimono

I don’t like this either, I prefer bags that are more timeless with a classic shape.
Petite Malle

Cluny

I like this bag, but I don’t like epi leather so I would never buy it.

Why the hate on Virgil?

I don’t hate Virgil, I just hate his designs for Off white and his debut menswear collection for LV. Idk maybe his later collections for Louis Vuitton will be better (doubt it). I mean I’m glad that a black designer is making history and finally being included in the fashion industry but I just feel like he’s destroying the integrity of the brand in the same way that Alessandro Michele is destroying Gucci (I’ll save that for another thread).

I mean the Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse collection was cool how it featured the graffiti bags and neon monogram. I didn’t particularly like the collection for myself as I didn’t buy anything but I thought it was cool.

Idk I wasn’t really wowed by any of the early 2000’s collabs but then again I don’t really like Louis Vuitton as a collective brand. I honestly think most of their stuff is tacky but I wanted to do an unbiased profile lol.

The only Louis Vuitton collabs I actually liked were the 2008 LV x Richard Prince and the various LV x Takashi Murakami collabs. I loved how the Richard Prince collection were based off of his nurse paintings and featured watercolor LV monograms, I think it’s the coolest bag they’ve ever done.

And of course with the 2003 Takashi collab came the iconic multicolor monogram. The multicolor ones were definitely the most popular LV bags in the early 2000’s everyone had them, especially in hip hop culture with the video vixens wearing them, etc.

I actually don’t frequently buy from LV, I’m not fond of the brand. The only cult houses I buy from are vintage Dior and Saint Laurent, I prefer lesser known designers like Johanna Ortiz and Ulyana Sergeenko. I just wanted to do an LV profile
Just messing with you, I noticed from a couple of your post you have exquisite sense of taste and style. :ehh:
