The immoveable force that is The Rock is facing his greatest foe yet: plate tectonics.

Dwayne Johnson has inked a deal to star in New Line Cinema's earthquake disaster epic, San Andreas, the actor's rep confirms to E! News.

Talk about a bodyslam.

In the film, Johnson will play a tough-as-nails rescue helicopter pilot who, in the aftermath of a catastrophic earthquake in California, must make a dangerous trek across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter.

Brad Peyton, who directed the 41-year-old action star in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, will helm San Andreas. The script is by a gaggle of scribes including Lost's Carlton Cuse and the Conjuring 2 team of Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes.

Johnson recently wrapped shooting on Hercules: The Thracian Wars, in which he plays the titular Greek demigod hero, and has since segued into production onFast & Furious 7, in which he reprises his role as bounty hunter Luke Hobbs. Both of those blockbusters are scheduled to hit theaters in July 2014.

The WWE champ has seen his global box office muscle grow mightily the past couple of years ever since he helped keep the Fast & Furious franchise on track by starring in 2011's Fast Five, which grossed $209 million globally.

Just this past year alone, per Box Office Mojo, he's racked up more than $1.2 billion in worldwide ticket sales with G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Pain & Gain and Fast & Furious 6.

San Andreas is expected to start shooting next April for a 2015 release date.
