It literally couldn't have been. The timing is all messed up and it confuses me too. Hit Em Up was recorded in 95. RD didn't drop until June of 96. There's a track on RD with Jay addressing Pac where he says he doesn't hate on those who hate him because he has Pac on. That means he would have known that Pac had animosity towards him. Pac took Jay out of Hit Em Up where he dissed him originally. To my knowledge, Pac didn't start heavily dissing Jay until 96. Somehow Jay must have known that Pac dissed him before Hit Em Up dropped and the reason why Pac dissed him remains unclear to me.
i dont think hit em up was recorded in 95.

Never paid attention to the video like that!
No wonder Pac was going at Jay. I knew it had to be more than Brooklyn's Finest. I think there is more to the Nas beef than most of us know too.

Nas has already said publicly that Big was campaigning to get him to join in with the whole Pac shyt...thing is there was no social media, unless you were privy to behind the scenes shyt all you know about is the music. Same thing with the Fugee's...to the laymen it looks like he was just dissing them on a humbug til you see what was going on behind all that.

that didn't drop until 98 on bleek's joint and the reissue of RD.. the original had can i live 1 without the pac lyrics

which is crazy cause he said the shyt way after pac died.. and still brought up that pac hated him... and then still took his song tho

There wasn't any super secret meetings of rappers trying to go against 2pac. What he was talking about was a thing that happened at a industry party where some rappers were discussing whether or not they should go at death row/2 PAC. Most of the people in the room had no beef with with PAC and were busy making other moves and didn't want to be drawn into it. Someone wanted to throw shots but wanted to know they'd have backing from the NY hip hop big dogs because it would've legitimized him and his label turning him into a major and relevant figure in NY hip hop. 2pac found out through someone about it and I guess the rest is history but anyone who listened to any of the unreleased 2pac/makeveli music heard the songs where he was dissing seemingly random NY rappers that he didn't really go at when he was alive. That's where that comes from.

But the whole group of rappers meeting weekly at a round table with cookies and juice to discuss how much they hate 2pac is comical but I guess he had to sensationalize it.
