i used to think voting didn't matter as a teenager. then i learned more about how gov works at the state and local district level and completely changed my attitude towards voting and the importance of representation even when you don't get the results you voted for. also encouraging younger kids as well as my peers to participate.

i used to think all white people were evil and not to be trusted because of biased influences in my family as a youngin and little interaction until my last two years of high school and in college. i'm far more open minded than i used to be.

i used to revere and blindly trust police as a little kid. then i grew up and realized most of them are conniving power hungry and power abusing azzholes.

the biggest social issue and challenge at the moment is the increasing social emergence/acceptance of homosexuals. my outward tolerance is greatly improved, given my internal disdain, but i'm still at conflict with the whole movement. being that i live in atlanta and i'm not leaving any time soon i know this is something that will have to be dealt with. it's starting to permeate my professional atmosphere more often and as a more personal matter it's something i'm going to have to explain/discuss with my kids, nephews and nieces at some point.

most importantly in my adult years i'm more aware and comfortable with admitting what i don't know and being open to different points of views. i don't have to agree with them, but i make more of an effort to understand where they're coming and share respect when it's mutual.

Yup.

Then I found out he was a racist POS in disguise and that the Libertarian movement in general is not at the point where it's completely divested itself of the racist bible thumping CAC right wing of American politics so...yeah...no thanks

I campaigned for, and thought that, the Democratic Party (including our President) would have no choice but to move the country towards the left after the Preemptive strikes/bombings, Torture, Spying, Corporatism, Bailouts, Corruption, Abuse of Powers, Censorship, Immigration stance, and so on. I was wrong and naive. They ended up taking the country to the right on a lot of those issues, and some was done under no threat of Republican or conservative obstruction. It was willfully done. This pushed me further left and has been the source of the biggest ideological shift in my life.

I used to be a heavy west coast head, and did not fukk with anything NY sounding till well after Pac and Big died, and my ear for music matured. Now I can throw on the Illmatics, Liquid Swords, Cuban Linx etc and appreciate and acknowledge it

I used to be a Muslim. Prayed 5 times a day, read the Quran front to back, a staple on Fridays at the mosques for Jumaa prayers, even accompanied my parents to Umrah when I was a kid. Circled the Kabaa, visited the Prophets tomb in Madina, drank from the well of Zam Zam etc. Now I dont suscribe to any religion whatsoever

Used to hate gay folks, now Im on some "live and let live" tip. Although, I still retain concerns about the general direction society is going, and I do believe there is an agenda in place in the media but thats another story for another day

Used to be a hardcore leftist, views have moderated a bit

Used to hate Israel and consider it a parasite. And though its hard sometimes to not let the hate over whelm me, Ive met alot of cool and righteous folks from the other side, and I take a more nuanced approach

Used to respect and love Pakistan for its help and assistance during the Jihad, but now I realize its very formation was a conspiracy against Muslims, and its very existence is an existential threat to Afghanistan

Used to think the problems of the Islamic world were 99% attributable to the legacy of colonialism. Not any more. There are deep economic and cultural issues within Islamic society which play just as significant a role.
When we were kids, Reagan was a hero because he supported the mujahideen :heh:

I used to think Ice Cube was the biggest gangster ever

I used to be a Taliban sympathizer when they first emerged, until their ethnocentrism, Pakistani puppetry and lack of respect for Afghan culture turned me away. The tipping point was the destruction of the Buddhas :to:

I used to be gung ho Canadian until the day they harassed me on the way BACK from Dominican. I always accepted the 3rd degree I got from US customs, cuz frankly Im entering THEIR country. Besides, it usually meant me talking football with them for an hour. But to get interrogated on the way back into my own country....man...dont get me wrong, Im a loyal citizen. But I dont offer unconditional loyalty to this country.

We, we used to have some heated arguments a while back on this. I've actually moved away from my initial feelings on that as well. Colonialism, meddling in sovereign nations, installing puppets and supporting The Saudis are a HUGE reason why we have the problems we do today. Much more than religion. The US government's support of jihadists in Syria, some of the same people we were just at war with in Iraq was the final straw that broke the camel's back.

I wouldn't say 'wrong' is the right word, but I used to be a hardcore atheist in my late teens and early 20s, then I flowed to being an agnostic, now im a variety of pantheist. I still hate abrahamic faiths tho :ahh:

It's not a step forward. It's a step backwards. Progress for the human race wasn't achieved by altruism.

I was wrong for not being a black supremacist, I thought things had change.

Instead of being indifferent and only going for self, I make more effort to help my fellow black man or black woman. I'm not racist, though.
