For those of you heavy into "collecting" and reselling sneakers, you probably came across this story over the weekend about the teenage reseller who charged six figures to his mother's credit card for his business.

People started digging into the story and some of the sales and finds were just too convenient to be a coincidence:

Sneaker Reseller Comes Up on 3 Pairs of Nike Air Mags in Storage Unit | Nice Kicks

The Mag sells for five figures on the after market.

A newspaper local to Portland did some digging and it was discovered that she's a 25 year employee of Nike and the GM of Nike North America which accounts for 41% of the company's yearly sales. She was forced to step down effective immediately after the story got too big to ignore

For those who aren't into shoes, the magnitude of this is pretty big. This is like the cartel selling to a dealer since they have direct ties to the product.

EDIT: Thread of the discord where he was selling company insider information.

someone explain why this is illegal i dont get it , he used his moms discount to resell?

  • Nike is struggling with the optics of their product being unobtainable because of resellers. This is a big hit to the brand. Someone who's next in line to be CEO being tied to a reseller can't be spun in a positive manner.
  • Nike employees do get fired for flipping product.
Based off of the credit card purchases, my guess is they were making it look like he was buying as a retailer to give legitimacy. Of course, the money charged is going to get paid back to her with interest.
