On some pure lyrical shyt, GZA is one of the best...nikka goes over mad heads. Sometimes he doesn't even TRY and he murks most rappers out today, and this is common knowledge with heads that truly can get down with the art like that.

Hip-hop today has been on some lowered expectations shyt...I'm not hating on all of these rappers out now, but many get away with "lyricism" when they aren't even sniffing the mere stench of the funk that GZA lays down, real talk.
Here's who I feel are the most overrated rappers on the Coli:

Eminem
Lupe Fiasco
Joe Budden
Andre 3000
Jay Electronica

And na'an none of them nikkas are in GZA's realm of elite lyricism. GZA could teach them a million things on writing verses. Not saying I feel he's necessarily a better MC all time than all of them (he's definitely better all time than Em, Lupe, Budden and Electronica) but his writing is on another level.

Gza is actually one of rap's best all time emcees and one of the last real true talents and wordsmiths In the history of rap.

You really can not mention a lot of names a head of him, and the obvious ones people will mention.
Giving false credence to in a commercial context.
He definitely is a better actual emcee than them, as well.

I bought it too what a shame..now I gotta find it

that muggs joint was :wow:
His 3rd album is Beneath the Surface, and it definitely is dope. Was just listening to 1112. RZA wasn't playing with that beat. Sinister.

Failure. Not better than GZA. How the hell you can listen to what I posted (Animal Planet) and that and come to that conclusion. Be real...you didn't even listen to the Animal Planet track, did you :comeon: ?

Animal Planet is more genius. Pun intended.

Legend of the Liquid Sword is an underrated album.

He does get overlooked as a lyricist, but I'm guessing that's more of a product of how sporadic his output is. It's been five years since Pro Tools, and that was a step backwards from Grandmasters.

Pharoahe Monch is another one who often gets overlooked for similar reasons.

Yea, you're absolutely right, Notorious. Pharaoh is another nikka that could school these overarted rappers on writing rhymes. And I also agree that ProTools was a step back from Grandmasters. The main reason, imo, is the lack of energy.

@BillyOcean, this is some damn powerful threadmaking. :salute:
Animal Planet has been in constant rotation ever since it dropped. Who the hell is Bink, though, and why haven't I heard more of his. Legend of the Liquid Swords had some other classic tracks like Fame (remember that one??), but overall I don't think the album is one of his best efforts... The good tracks are damn great though...

I think it's pathetic when a grown man can't give props to a rapper's greatness without trying to be comparative and dumbing down the greatness of other rappers.

Saying Animal Planet is an amazing song and that GZA is a great lyricist makes for a dope thread. Trying to sneak in the idiotic opinion that Andre 3000, Eminem, Jay Electronica, and Lupe Fiasco aren't outstanding lyricists in their own right greatly waters down the quality of the thread while simultaneously making you looking stupid.

Erk, Bink is a very underrated producer that has made some serious bangers for Jay-Z, Fat Joe, Nate Dogg, Tamia and a bunch of other big artists.
