It varies from set to set.
When I was going to Dorsey (one of the worst gang controled schools in LA, as you probably know) I had to deal with BPS, Inglewood Fam, Harlem 30s, Rolling 60s, and I was catching the bus from 57th street and figeroea... so just to get to the bus stop I'd have to go through the Hoovers which are anybody killers (not blood or crip)

So trust me there are rules. If not for the rules I wouldn't even have bothered tryna make it to school everyday.
The rules kept kids like me safe and meant my moms could go to church without worrying about being robbed.
Its certain things gangsters don't do. Once you understand that, you can manuever through them safely.

And black gangs tend to ignore hispanic brehs, and esses will not harass black kids because there is posibility for shyt to be sparked cause neither side knows who is who or what kid is somebody's brother or whatnot.

If you are flagging (wearing colors) or seem like you are transforming (actually affiliated but pretending not to be cause you are scared for your safety) you will be banged on and sorted out... but if you are clearly unaffiliated and tryna get somewhere like school, church, etc you are good for the most part.

They might have beat that kid up cause he was bragging he was honor role or showing off or flossing or disrespectful or any number of things, but not just cause he's 'smart' and made honor roll. They'd get disciplined for that by their ogs. Gangs do have reputations, and you can make your gang look bad by doing stupid shyt.
