All of Scott Cooper's movies are intriguing but never amount to anything particularly great (or even good) so I'm very, very weary about this.

Good flick. Depicts the savagery of that era in a realistic and evenhanded way. Native Americans were both noble and brutal- much like whites. Gorgeous scenery. Good action and has characters you grow to care about. Not my favorite western, but a solid B.

Edit: The white woman's entitlement is on full display.

I would agree, his movies have all been really disappointing, though they held a lot of promise, "Out Of The Furnace" had great acting, great atmosphere, setting, it just collapsed with bad script and plotting. I would say that is true of Black Mass too, but this could be worth watching in February, if nothing else.
