I was just watching this documentary on VICE. We have more people locked up here than any other nation in the world :snoop: It stems from a lot of things, poverty, lack of a support system and etc. However, we do need more resources for criminals. Especially, guaranteeing them some type of job until they get on their feet once the get out. So, they won't be homeless once they run outta that 200 bucks that the prison gives them. I had an uncle who was in the military, then he got locked up for doing stupid shyt :snoop: Then, it was wash, rinse, and repeat with him. Now, he's in his 60's doing aight :jawalrus: Problem is, when these criminals come home no one wants to hire them because of their criminal record. That makes them go back to the streets to POTENTIALLY get caught up with the law again :wow: How do you think we can FIX this issue? Because there's criminals who get out and have no where to go. We don't want them to become homeless. THIS is a major problem. From lack of parental figures to gangs that get them caught up. This just doesn't go out to our people, but criminals in general :francis:

Start with not privatizing prisons..maybe? Idk

But I would assume that prisons would have to be in favor of this...and to not try and make money off of prisoners, but to actually look out for their best interest

Getting rid of thier records, not in all cases obviously. But shyt like robbery and drug offenses should be wiped off. Hard to rehabilitate when you're labeled as what you used to be because of a piece of paper and can't get a job because of it, therefore you have to rob and shyt just to survive :camby:

Everyone needs a legit second chance

Let's be real not many places are going to hire felons.

Use diversion programs.

A little drug dealing, give like 320 hours of community service 8 hours every sat for a year and

I agree with the second part. Also, that not hiring felons part needs to change. That's why they go back to doing illegal activity because of money.

We still have them GOING BACK to prison though :francis:
that's what i'm talking about, it's not their behavior, persay, it's the conditions they return to and lack of options due to laws created to ostracize former prisoners, which create a class of individuals unable to resort to normal means of creating and establishing a living that you and i would have (say we can easily apply for a job w/o a record, but they have to explain themselves), not to mention in some states these men and women are unable to live in public housing as conditions of their parole after they get out but most of these men and women come from the socio-economic level and their family and friends receive assistance from the government. if these parolees aren't able to rely on their own family, then who can they turn to?

and that's just one law, their are other laws made/designed that prevent former prisoners from returning to fully functional citizens, instead the laws create a situation where returning to illegal activities that might have landed them in prison in the first place seem the only viable/easiest option

:francis:

look up the word recidivism, next time

Nowhere
breh it wasn't until the war on drugs that America began to lead the world in incarceration. plus this country in general has a hard-on for punishment

for example the U.N. and other authorities consider isolation (solitary confinement) TORTURE
they KNOW that a small amount of solitary confinement drives people crazy, but that's been a staple in our prison systems forever :stopitslime:

and like y'all said, because of wonderful, honest, caring people like clinton, the entire system is set up to get you back into prison once you come out.
there is no serious attempt to rehabilitate because it was denied by people like him :pacspit:

there's all kinds of examples of how to successfully rehabilitate prisoners and make prison conditions more humane. you can look to scandinavian countries in particular.
we know how to do it but the issue is having the political power to make it happen. we need vast popular movements to achieve these things but we have nothing like this yet

and it's important to brothers to note this system overwhelmingly affects black males. by now black women and hispanics have gotten caught up in it but it has always been mostly black men, since the reconstruction era
so this issue is especially important for us and we got to get active on this shyt man.

Yep, in Norway their prison is more livable and HELPS rehabilitate criminals. Having a person away from people and in a cell 23 hours a day makes them go crazy. That's why they are in such a trance when they get out. Also, the Clintons are some of the biggest scumbags out there. Hopefully, DragQueen Hilary won't get elected.
