man i feel like a dummy rn
about 12 years ago, i had acute pancreatitis and had to stay overnight in the hospital. i never paid the bill from the ER, I figured they'd write off part of it and send the rest to collections; i expect calls about debt, thats not surprising. however, i got a call from these scammers posing as another business in town. they damn near got me!
its disgusting how much of our info is available publicly. you can damn near get everything you need to impersonate somebody, except for the social security numbers, which you can purchase on the "dark web"/TOR. i'm thinking some shytbag hacker hacked a hospital and sold the information to scammers, thus the vulture on the other end of the line this morning.
they had me scared, talking about garnishing my wages
it took me about 20 minutes to calm down and for my logic circuit to activate because
i realized something was fishy... why would they want to send a process server to serve me over a civil case? and why the fukk would they TELL me im going to be served? thats the whole point of a process server, sneaking up on someone. they musta thought im retarded or something because that makes zero sense.
i ended up doing some googling and realized that they were impersonating a local tulsa debt collection agency (i actually phoned the other company and they'd heard of this scam).. they had a similar name and 877 number, and the rub here is theyre counting on older people to be confused. they offered to settle the entire debt for $1358 TODAY like yeah ok
dont get scammed! if they can almost get ME, im terrified for the rest of my relatives
