This is precisely why this song is classic though...to this day, it still makes cornball brothers and lame cacs nervous :hamster:

Funny thing is, this song is nothing new at all...you're just scared of the artist. Here's a song with the same message by a "safer negro" for you:

Watch as he weaves the came cautionary tale but doesn't give off the impression that he's the one that's going to be robbing you. As a matter of fact, you can dare to call this song....conscious. :ohhh:

Now this is a jam you can "get with". A conscious rap song with a message and a beat that's sure to get the heads a-nodding without having to worry about attracting any true rapscallions while playing this on your way from lacrosse practice. :obama:

Real hiphop, ya'll!

I remember the day I saw the Ante Up video I felt sick like I wanted go throw up. It was like watching a murder.

I couldn't believe somebody made a song about taking someone's life in a robbery like that. I was sick I was disgusted.

It was the crabs in a barrel anthem.
The message was if you are a successful black man and buy any jewelry or a nice car that other black men were coming to take it from you and possibly kill you in the process because they don't want to work and be successful.

I'm glad MOP hasn't had much success because that song exceeded all limits.

In all seriousness that might be one of the worst mainstream songs for black culture.

Lol. Would like to know what songs you listen to. For the record, MOP had more explicit songs than that.

For all of you with negative comments for ME. If you or one of your loved ones gets robbed or killed in an attempted robbery I would like you to play this song and tell me how you feel about it then.

My bad I forgot I'm a black man so I'm supposed to support black crime and violence or look the other way.

Smh. You probably must be offended at reading the news then because it's never anything but that.

NYers took some serious L's in Miami letting this song go to their head. :mjlol: I thought this song is older than 16 years. I thought it came out in 97:ehh:

I do agree though. That if you aint robbing the people the reason you can't ahead, I aint impressed. :yeshrug: You aint going out like Chris Doerner if you down and out and sick of it all, you aint gangsta. :manny:

I don't like the song not because of the message but because for a real ass song about real shyt, the beat does not match the content. shyt is supposed to be about haterism and you rapping on a happy ass Alice in Wonderland, I just won a billion dollars and about to retire forever beat. That beat was annoying as fukk. Get the fukk outta here. How about some hardcore >>>> ante up. Billy danze was sounding flabby and sick on the original and remix especially the original. Dude was literally having an asthma attack on the beat, wheezing every line.

:mjlol: at all the explanations for liking the song in this thread. Making it out to be a don't do drugs or smoky the bear type PSA or something. It was a song about robbing knee grows. If you like it, then like it for what it was...a song about robbing! I happen to think the song sucks. Period.

That's why the song is also called Robbin hoods theory. It's listed along with the song title.

Personally, this song is about common sense. It's simply being street smart. Don't make yourself a fukking target. You don't even have to go to a bad area to get your issue if you go about flashing your money in the face of those that don't have it. You don't even have to dress up with money and shyt. You can be an everyday dude and still get pickpocketed or get robbed. Plenty of people come through rolling out their iPhones and electronics and get robbed too.
