He's trying to mimic soccer leagues, which have both a league competition and a cup competition, which in soccer is usually a straight knockout tournament.
It's dumb, though, because in soccer, the leagues invite teams from all the leagues in the country to play. Unless Silver is letting the CBA and, uh, the NABL play in this, it won't be the same.
It also won't work because those cups came around even before formal league play in some of those European countries. They have history. This cup wouldn't.
It's too bad that there aren't enough leagues out there that are even near the level of the NBA to create a Champion's League where all the champs of the top twelve basketball leagues in the world play for the title of world's champion. That would be interesting.

This shyt got me triggered...
Not cause Patty Mills went and got him a white chick...he always struck me as a nowhen it came to women...
But when I last saw this nikka he was shooting a smooth 15% from the field against Denver in round 1
Not 15% from 3 or 15% when double teamed or 15% from corner 3...15% from EVERYWHERE...
And then you pop up 2 months later dressed in some clothes prince just never got around to wearing like it's all good
You can't have one of the worst shooting performances in playoff series history and show up like this at an awards ceremony like nothing happened without addressing what you did...

I wouldn't go that far. He doesn't have the connections that Woj or Shams has. And there was no reason to even front like he does. Broussard is a decent analyst. nothing more.
