Their cap holds are big and it allows Mudiay to negotiate sooner. they clearly don't have much of an issue losing him if he gets the deal he wants (and if he does it's probably a deal NY wasn't gonna match anyway)

Has this ever happened before in the nba? Two guys the best players on their teams leaving after being in the finals?

To be fair, in the case of Kawhi, if he left for a team that wasn't as good, it's because that team didn't have a guy like Kawhi.

Add Kawhi to a team like the Clippers or Nets, and you could say they'd be the better team
