No it just eliminates the middle ground and players that aren’t stars don’t get overpaid.The whole idea was that getting paid more to stay works to a certain degree, but when it comes to legacy and happiness. Getting paid 60 million(and all hits the cap) and your starting lineup is you and 4 half price folding chairs at Walmart just sounds miserable way to waste your prime.
If Drafted teams got to pay another premium ontop of the current premium to keep talent while Superteams gets a huge discount. Why can't it work both ways? Drafted team pays the Super premium, but get the FA team discount towards on cap. The team wins, the player wins... make sense.
Owners have to spend the money. That's one thing baseball gets right even with the strength of the MLBPA.
