Cardi's music isn't really my thing. I don't FW female rappers, period. Just can't do it.
But if you don't respect Cardi's hustle and position in the game than you're just a hater, flat out. If you're from NY you know there are like half a million girls exactly like Cardi out there, everywhere. If you're from the city you know a "Cardi" personally. Seeing Cardi make it is like seeing the "every man" make it. Her winning is a big win for all of NYC and for girls across the world.
Her glow-up has been inspiring, even for me as a dude. To see someone go from community college to a bentley in like 4 years just off of being themselves is crazy. It's weird bc Cardi's special but also there's nothing really special about her at the same time. Because everyone knows a girl like that - always funny, brings the energy, lights up/owns whatever room they walk into. She parlayed just being herself into super-stardom. I don't like the Nikki comparisons or any comparison really because Cardi's in a whole different lane; she's not a rapper, she's a personality who happens to rap.
In a couple years she'll still be killing it and still be in the public eye but I guarantee she won't be rapping anymore. Clothing, makeup lines, acting and maybe a popular single every now and again, but that's just going to be a vehicle to push her other shyt
We just witnessed a glow-up like no other. Girl was working as a cashier and now she's building an empire. If you're a purist and think she's trash as an artist, fine...but that's your fault for getting it twisted the same way as people got it twisted when the Drake v. Meek thing was going down, acting surprised at Drake without realizing he's a POP star who happens to use rap as a platform, NOT a MC... ppl gotta start recognizing lanes and stop thinking just because rap is involved everyone's on the same damn highway.
