the most of hip hop music today is just one big pile of shyt. the classics from way back in the day will always be the classics but the most of this new shyt i ain't feelin' at all. the old stuff will always be great, even though sometimes listenin' to them over and over can get old and the samples outweigh the songs that were made from them but then again, 90's hip hop was somethin' else :wow:

but most of this new hip hop? most of it is wack as fukk :beli:
i expect this thread to be 1 starred straight to mars but i don't give a fukk :manny::russ:

Jokes aside, I respect your comment @stomachlines .

A few questions if you'd be kind enough to answer them:

What did you grow up listening to in the household prior to hip hop?
What genres are you listening to now that give your soul the satisfaction it needs?

:camby: @ Saying Spoken Word >>>> Rap/Hip Hop

I'll probably never get tired of Hip Hop.

When I go listen to Robert Cray or Stevie Ray Von, I find myself missing
the hard drums of Hip Hop.
When I go listen to Christian Scott or Robert Glasper (albums prior to Black Radio...)
I find myself wanting the groovy simplicity of Hip Hop.
When I go listen to Funkadelic/Parliament or Roger Troutman, I miss the urgency
and intensity of RZA or Dre/Aftermath production.

Hip Hop will probably forever be a staple in my musical diet because there's a sound
in Hip Hop, I won't get anywhere else :yeshrug:

On top of that I listen to very different artists within the same genre.
I'll throw on Yung Thug's "Check" and then when I'm tired of that I'll throw on
Joey Bad4$$ "Christ Conscious".
Two entirely different approaches to rapping and production and vastly different
out looks on life expressed in the music, also keeps a style from getting "played out".

also this just came out, so I can't drop Hip Hop yet.

i grew up listenin' to r&b and soul music first and foremost but hip hop was always around. but i was a r&b and soul head first; my mom and dad always had music like james brown, aretha franklin, the temptations, marvin gaye, al green, elton john, curtis mayfield, the beatles, con funk shun, fleetwood mac, genesis/phil collins, bill withers, willie hutch, levert, prince, dionne warwick, michael jackson, cameo, bobby womack, the whispers, the dramatics, sting, mint condition, chaka khan, glady knight and the pips etc etc, the list goes on.

a lot of different music gives me satisfaction, like for instance ain't nothin' like some sly stone, curtis mayfield, the staple singers james brown, marvin gaye, isaac hayes, willie hutch, barry white, kenneth edmonds, parliament, funkadelic, the meters, the ohio players, michael jackson, the eagles, cameo, albert king, jimi hendrix, john lee hooker, prince, al green, stevie ray vaughn, son house, minnie riperton, roger troutman, bobby womack, lightin' hopkins, ahmad jamal, leroy hutson, pink floyd, santana, mint condition, chaka khan, led zeppelin, the rolling stones, van halen, fleetwood mac, the beatles etc etc; the list goes on and on :ohlawd:
