Iran accuses Saudis of supporting terrorist groups

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has accused Saudi Arabia of supporting terrorist groups inside Iran, days after the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group claimed attacks in Tehran.

"We have intelligence that Saudi Arabia is actively engaged in promoting terrorist groups operating on the eastern side of Iran in Baluchestan," Zarif said on Tuesday at a news conference on the sidelines of an annual peace mediation in Oslo.

He said the armed groups were "using the territory of one of our neighbours against its will to launch attacks against Iran which only two months ago led to the murder of nine Iranian border guards," refering to Pakistan.

"On the Western side the same type of activity is being undertaken, again by using the diplomatic hospitality of other neighbours," Zarif said.

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has blamed the US for creating ISIS and fostering instability in the Middle East amid an ongoing crisis in the region.

"That (the) US arms a terrorist group is what causes instability," Khameini wrote on Twitter Monday. "Who created ISIS? The US!"

He added that while US President Donald Trump accuses Iran of supporting terrorists, "terrorism in this region has American roots."

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards, a powerful branch of the country's military, vowed revenge for the attacks and blamed them on longstanding regional rival Saudi Arabia.

ISIS has its roots in al Qaeda in Iraq, which took part in the insurgency that followed the 2003 US-led invasion of the country.

While Saudi Arabia has been threatened by the group, officials in the region and their Western counterparts have claimed ISIS receives funding from backers inside the Kingdom as well as from other rich Middle Eastern countries.

This isn't controversial regarding the US.

We helped create AQI. Helped exacerbate the split between AQI and IS with our work regarding Iraq, but saying we exclusively created ISIL disregard religious fanaticism, extremism, Civil Wars, and the tumultuous infighting that already existed.

This is an L we all have to hold. :yeshrug:

We should expect to see a lot more of this rhetoric with a president who has no understanding or desires In regard to any understanding of world affairs. And despite his cavalier Nationalism, he is actually pushing the US down in the world's pecking order.

Iran is just as responsible for Sunni resentment/ISIS as the US.

Saudi Arabia and Iran are just two different branches of the same tree. The fact that the U.S. funds and supports one over the other is a joke.

The only real difference between SA and Iran is that the Saudi's pay America for our cooperation, and Iran doesn't.

First thing you've said that I agree with :mjlol:

Iran sponsors terrorism (though not as much as Saudi Arabia), but they also galvanize radical Islamists with incendiary, anti-Western rhetoric.

Iran literally is a state-sponsor of terrorism.

And whats funny, is that 99% of this forum literally has no idea how gully Iran is. Or their history around the world.

They make Al-Qaeda look like tee-ball.
And what is Saudi Arabia? They are responsible for funding madrassas in Europe,Mideast,Asia that preach sunni extreamism. As of right now sunni jihadist are treating the West and it all comes back to Saudi Arabia. I am not denying Iran doesn't do some dirt however let us remember we are fighting on the same side with them in Iraq and Syria. We have to accept that the region has changed and that containing Iran is a non started because it won't work since Iraq is now in the Shia axis. Once Saddam was gone Iran's rise to regional hegemony was inevitable. We should at learn to work with them. Obama had the right idea when it came to Iran. He saw the long game and knew in the future Iran could be a good ally. Now with Trump we are pushing Iran in the Russia/China axis while we back Saudi fukking Arabia who funds wahhabism.
