NEW YORK (PIX11) — Jury selection will begin on Monday at Brooklyn Federal Court in the murder trial of two suspects accused in the death of Jason Mizell, better known as Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC.

Mizell was fatally shot in the head inside his Jamaica, Queens, recording studio on Oct. 30, 2002

Karl Jordan, Jr., 40, and Ronald Washington, 59, are accused in Mizell’s death. Jordan Jr., who also goes by “Little D” and “Noid,” is accused of shooting Mizell. They were indicated in 2020.

Mizell, Jordan Jr., and Washington are all from Hollis, Queens. Mizell and Jordan Jr. were neighbors.

In 2021, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland directed the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York not to seek the death penalty

Jay Bryant, 50, is accused of participating in Mizell’s death. He reportedly left behind an article of clothing at the crime scene that contained his DNA.

Bryant will be tried in 2026.

Opening statements in the trial against Jordan, Jr. and Washington are expected to begin on Jan. 29.
