I see everybody throwing around this $10 million number for Crabtree, but is that confirmed? I doubt he's asking for that much money. He was/is willing to sign an incentive laden deal (that was reported), I just don't know if the talks are ongoing or if they put them off until after the season.

If he's asking for $10 million+, then he can kick rocks. However, I still think he's an important piece looking toward the future.
  • Quan will be here 1-2 more years
  • Stevie is signed through 2016 at $6 million+
  • Lloyd is signed for 1 year
  • Patton is still on his rookie deal, but that expires 2016
  • Bruce Ellington is signed through 2017

So basically after this season, we'll be looking at a receiving corp of Anquan, Stevie, QP, and Ellington. We already know this coaching staffs track record of non-development of the WR position, so any receiver we draft is basically a crap shoot. So QP and Ellington are 50/50 of washing out. The only sure bets are Stevie and Quan.
yeah 10m is kind of a pipe dream at this point, but even something like 7-8m is too much imo

my main concern is that crabs is a big luxury if we keep running one, two WR sets at most. you look at snap distribution and the game, we run a ton of 1 WR sets. I mean stevie had like 8 snaps this game
if we arent planning to expand the passing game it makes no sense to have paying 8m for luxury like crabtree we arent gonna be using.

I agree about developing receivers part

Crabtree couldn't get 10m a year from any team with a gun and a knife.

I`m much more into the idea of keeping Iupati, as I have always been a big fan of his, and now it looks like Crabtree is the more expendable of the two as there are receiving options all around and our o-line is pretty trash in pass pro, could we really afford to lose a vet like Iupati?
I dont think its trash in pass pro, Id say its slightly above average, mostly from the left side because staley is a fukking beast

you just know some games the line finna suck at pass pro. this game we were facing a multiple allpro and a multi pro bowler in hali/houston. you know you finna get hit hard when your RT is a backup in jmartin. it is what is. other teams counter the pass rush by throwing a ton of short, quick passes to keep the ends in check...we ...well :manny: we don't. Im pretty happy staley kept hali at bay actually

Maiocco: Updates on Aldon and NaVorro

All-Pro inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman is eligible to return to the 49ers' practice field next week, but it appears to be a near-certainty that Aldon Smith will beat him back into the lineup.

Smith is serving a nine-game suspension for violations of the NFL’s policies on substance abuse and personal conduct. He is eligible to begin practicing on Nov. 10. He is on pace to make his season debut Nov. 16 at the New York Giants.

And Smith expects to be able to step in immediately, according to 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

“He told me last week, I asked him how’s he’s doing with his conditioning and fitness, he says, ‘I’m the most fit guy in this building’ he told me,” Fangio said Tuesday morning on the "Murph and Mac Show" on KNBR. “He seems to be doing well along those lines. We’re looking forward to his return down the line.”

Bowman continues to rehab from the severe knee injury he sustained in the NFC Championship game. He is on the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list and is not eligible for the first six weeks of the season.

But Bowman will require several additional weeks to be ready to practice and get ready for game action, Fangio said.

“NaVorro’s doing well in his rehab,” Fangio said. “He still has to be out two more games, at least, then he’ll be out several after that. But he’s doing well. He’s had no roadblocks in his rehab. Everything’s gone smooth. He’s ahead of where he should be and we’re looking forward to his return at some point.

“I think at some point he’ll eventually play (this season). But right now it’s still later than sooner. . . He’s going to need a couple weeks of practice to get his legs under him and feel comfortable playing on his leg.”

After the sixth week of the season, each player on PUP or non-football injury begins a six-week window during which time the club can get him back on the practice field. Once a player returns to practice, there is an additional three-week period, at the end of which, the team must activate the player to the 53-man roster, place the player on injured reserve or release the player.

The difference in that swing pass play...

Here's another example of how the little things matter so much:

am3w8x.png

here, KC is going to run a swing pass to a WR out of the backfield.
2hofb44.png

On his dropback, AS keeps his head down the middle of the field, so he doesn't give away the swing pass right away. This allows the receivers to get into good positions to block and holds the LB's.
2hx3j2h.png

AS then turns and floats the ball out to his receiver in stride.
vqo5g1.png

Bethea defeats his block, but other offensive players make it downfield to block.
1zdp06r.png

Bethea misses his tackle - tough duty though in open field against a receiver running full speed.
mooko.png

Result of the play is a TD for KC.

We're going to run pretty much the exact same play(earlier in the game though). This is a great example of how two teams can run the same play, but it comes down to the little things in execution.
2qa625g.png

The moment the ball is snapped CK turns his head to the receiver on the swing pass. You see how the defenders are reacting to CK's eyes. The LB flows that way and the DB's charge the blockers.

KC now has 3 on 2

They do a good job of containing the lanes.

Ellington gets 1 yard....
1432pol.png

You see how Smith's head is down the middle of the field(this is actually about a half second later than I'll show CK's shot) how it holds the LB's in the middle of the field.

qqampe.png

Ck's head was immediately out to the swing pass and the LB's are flowing towards the play.

It's this little stuff that's the difference between a 1 yard gain and a 17 yard TD.... In the NFL that half second is huge!

:ohhh: :patrice:

GRo and Harbs have to get in Kaps ear and get him to stop fkn staring down his recievers. He almost threw a pick looking right at Crabs on the slant instead of looking him off. He's still learning tho. It took Alex years and years to get where he's at now and this is Kaps 2nd full year as a starter. Gotta remember he was a pistol QB coming out of college:manny:

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
All I'm saying is one thing...Haubaugh better keep his motherfukking job :birdman:
unless we get some HOF (already) coach, the niners will NEVER live down letting Harbaugh go.. EVER

think about how shytty we were for years before... he comes, instant NFC championship or Super Bowl every year... even turned around, worst pick ever Alex Smith... :blessed:

Then after another successful season. a crazy playoff and regular season record... we let him go... and DON'T win the very next season.... :mjcry:

ohhhhhhhhh laaaaaaaaaaaaawd... we better not EVER let them hear the end of this

I think all this Harbaugh leaving stuff is air. Most great NFL coaches had abrasive personalities. He certainly isn't leaving for a college team.
