yea he can play in a pinch but he hasnt played it for niners in preseason games at all. with that said NT is less of a position in our scheme just because the NT plays like 35% of the snaps...
imo our coaching philosophy is basically grooming guys for future with specific spots in mind. tank is at RE, dial at LE. lemon at LOLB and lynch at ROLB
guy like Ward who they think can play another position they actually move to that position for some snaps, ie Ward played safety snaps
Good shyt, I aint been able to keep up with the ins and outs of position battles and such this pre-season, too much other shyt happening, so props on the update.
Ever since we taken off and been in the post-season 3 years in a row, pre-season feels less important than ever as a fan

its pretty good in evaluating and watching backups and position battles
with football roster evolution basically going draft route nearly every time, its nice watching some players rise up to occasion and go from rooks to vets to pro bowlers.

Yeah, this is what I really liked about the team the last couple years, remember Harbaugh saying how PS players are really developmental guys.and how they came to the post season as he expected them to contribute down the road.

I think it was give and take from both.
Obviously, the Niners didn't want to negotiate with somebody who wasn't in camp, but the play of the line in Boone's absence necessitated them to do so.
On the other hand, Boone originally didn't want an extension but a new contract. The fact that he agreed to an extension indicates that he was willing to work out a deal.
Both sides won in this instance...
