speaking of moody and LBs, wilhoite is easily the starter imo

overall, seems like the staff followed their own old 'player with seniority who know the system will get first crack at it' thing at pretty much every position there was a battle in.

cox, morris and even cook seem to have the upper hand on ward and johnson
wilhoite over borland
pretty much every WR we already had + lloyd over ellington

Wilhoite showed last season he can fill in well.

I always expected him to be the one taking that spot til Bow gets back

McDonald been a nothing contributor, it seems to me he`ll continue to be that. I don't have a lot of hope for the guy.

As for Ellington, that is great news to hear. We always seem to miss on drafting WRs, hopefully this guy turns out to be someone who can make some plays
I also have high hopes for Patton, too bad he hurt his foot last year

I did, as he looked good in the pre-season, but he had time on the field last year and did all of nothing with it.

He had one catch that meant anything in that Cards game, aside from that, i`m willing to see him go before I am to see Lloyd, Ellington or Johnson go.

3. Vance McDonald. This tight end has been targeted 48 times during camp team drills. Only Anquan Boldin has been targeted more times than McDonald. The 49ers drafted McDonald in the second round last year and seem set on making him a key member of the passing game. The problem is McDonald has dropped 15 passes in camp. That has to be a training-camp record. And even when he catches the ball, he tends to double-catch it, meaning he bobbles it and then traps it against his body. That won’t cut it. Can he improve his hands during the preseason? If not, he probably will disappear from the passing game.

:camby:

I get Eastbay magazines in the mail. I open the latest one I received Monday, and who's on the inside cover? None other than Vance McDonald with the tagline that reads: READY FOR AUGUST

moody played safety in college

Oh I know I'm a FSU fan. He played safety for two years. He was kind of the prototypical strong safety/rover. A hard hitter, run stopper, but weak in pass coverage. He lost his starting spot in 2011 when Lamarcus Joyner moved to safety. They moved him to OLB before the start of his senior year.

I was surprised they drafted him. He's an okay player. But who knows maybe he'll excel in our system at MLB.

There was a reason for that. Moody was not instinctive in coverage, did not move quite as well as a safety should, and did not take consistently efficient angles to the football. People often confused his big hitting with being very good against the run. They were not one in the same.

I agree Wilhoite has the ILB position on lock.

And even though I've shytted on Cook. I'm kind of low key excited to see how he will perform. Hopefully he exceeds my expectations.

I also wouldnt expect any crazy creative playcalling this year, roman already said playbook and offense was set like three weeks ago.

I dont really expect us to go all pass crazy with 3/4 WR sets unless the situation really demands it

I see us keeping lloyd in moss role, stevie in the mario role and just rolling with quan/crabs/vd as usual

we'll see tho

I like vance. I think his blocking is already above average. he just needs to stop dropping shyt like a madman. thats key to gaining kaeps confidence. in rare instances vance caught the ball good things happened.

he needs a big camp this year, i dont think hes going to make the squad unless he improves as a base defense player
