instead of boxing? He had ONE good thing going for him, punching power for a street fighter.

Instead you take your chances to learn more disciplines and enter a sport that takes YEARS of discipline to become good at? :wtf:

Who advised him to do this? I don't think he would have been a great pro boxer, but he would have fared much better IMO.

You think boxing takes any less discipline to master? Great boxers take years to develop their skills.

He made the right decision. MMA is a young sport, it has a shallower talent pool. You have a better chance of making it big in MMA than in boxing. If Kimbo were to have chosen boxing originally, he would've made absolutely no noise in the boxing world. In MMA, he was able to fight for the biggest MMA promotion (the UFC) and will be fighting for [currently] the 2nd biggest MMA promotion (Bellator MMA).

Absolutely, Kimbo would get washed by most top 20-30 heavys/cruisers/light heavies. It would have taken years just to get him in proper position for a paper title let alone one of the actual titlists within the divisions. Also he was already ancient going into MMA, he just wouldnt have had any luck in boxing outside of top 400 no hopers

:heh:@ this thread. It was smart, because he came in as a draw which got him some good paydays he would never get in boxing.

It's all about the money. He was never gonna be at the top in either sport.

That's just on the business side.

Let's look at the sport side.
His hands where his best asset. They gave him an advantage that he would never have in boxing. MMA is a young sport & the striking was really poor back then.

In the boxing world, his hands don't stand out at all.

His chin was awful. He rocked by a bum in a boxing match. It would never allow him to get anywhere in the boxing world.

Although you have more disciplines to learn in MMA, that actually gives you more chances to a win a fight. If you don't have the hands or chin in boxing, your fukked.

He shoulda did 3 years in judo or wrestling instead of BJJ.

He shoulda been trying to stop getting to the ground game and learning escapes.

nikka would have been a nobody in boxing. They knew exactly what they were doing with him.
With the right promoter and a steady diet of tomato cans that he could knock out in spectacular fashion, I think Kimbo could have been a marketing goldmine and parlayed a trumped up record and a lot of hype into one of the stray heavyweight tiles and a big money fight with Wlad Klitschko.

The model is working out perfectly fine for Deontay Wilder.:sas2:
