Here's one of my ancestors:
This is "Papa Rock". My 3rd Great Grandfather. Born in Rumley, Ohio in 1884. After being educated at Oberlin College he went to work for the US Department of Agriculture. Relocated to Chicago in 1910 to oversee operations at the Chicago Stock Yards where Jewish, Italian, Irish, and Polish immigrants had to report to him. He was also a part-time jeweler and the first colored man to have his products sold by Marshall Field and Company and CD Peacock. Was a member of the Colored Knights of Pythias and the Druids. And a Warden of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. He died in 1955.
