For those who are unaware, the MKA Institute for Afrocentric Studies, headed by Dr. Molefi Asante & Dr. Am a Mazama, has created a graduate program where you can earn a PHD in African World Studies, etc.
The Molefi Kete Asante Institute for Afrocentric Studies is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy organization based in Philadelphia. The Institute conducts social science and cultural studies research in education, economics, municipal governance, African American quality of life indices, African policy, language policy, and cultural development domestically and internationally. The aim is to provide practical, innovative, and agency-centered analyses, critiques and reports to encourage and support a more secure, safe, and productive national society as well as to positively impact the ordinary lives of African people.
There are three principal research themes of the Institute: (1) Combating all forms of oppression, (2) establishing the basis for an African Renaissance on the African continent and in the African diaspora, and (3) promoting efforts for national and international peace and harmony.
In addition to these themes the Instituteβs experts are committed to analyzing collateral forms of prejudice and hegemony such as colorism and privilege in the American society and economic and environmental conditions in the African communities in the United States and elsewhere. The Molefi Kete Asante Institute regularly conducts thinking and debating sessions on issues of concern and interests to the community. A strong list of Ph.D. scholars, intellectuals, and culuralists are associated with the Institute.
Publications of the Institute are distributed in articles, reports, books, pamphlets, and newsletters to a wide range of audiences including domestic and international policy makers, social experts, community leaders, and educational directors. The Molefi Kete Asante Institute publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Asante.
In addition to the publishing program, the Molefi Kete Asante Institute conducts training sessions for urban teachers, social workers, and community leaders engaged in African American Studies, African history, innovative leadership strategies, and social and economic development programs. Thus, the Institute maintains a diverse group of experts with various points of view on themes and topics of the Institute as it seeks to promote a healthy cultural agency-oriented dimension to research which rejects particularly the marginalization, peripheralization, and dislocation of African people.
