Here's the thing about that match. It was supposed to take place at Starcade that year but Paul couldn't drop enough weight for the match, so it was pushed back a month. We would have been the 2nd or 3rd to last match of the evening, and originally I was going to put him over since Starcade 97 was supposed to be "The Night" for WCW. Paul had nearly a month to drop some pounds, and wasn't motivated, so me being the strapping young buck I was at the time, agreed to the finish everyone saw on TV and thankfully Hogan and Bischoff were there to improvise and sell us both on the aftermath.
When Paul is motivated, he can drop the weight. Unfortunately, in the late 90's, it took him signing with Vince to get his ass back into shape, which didn't last long from what I remember.
