:why: The Season 4 finale just aired 4 days ago & the Season 4 thread is still stickied, so yes it's too early.

:heh: Why did you label the thread "TV SHOW VERSION"? The Book series isn't even called "Game of Thrones". You should've just labelled it "No future Bookspoilers" thread.

:ehh: But the exec. producers are already talking Season 5 with the media so I guess I can post some articles here.

Characters leaked for Game of Thrones season 5, with new details

2-630x419.jpg

Thanks to a tip from an unofficial Winteriscoming.net source, we have a better idea of how Game of Thrones season 5 is taking shape. Casting is in full swing, providing us with details about who the show will be adding next year- and a few of the changes that may happen with them.

Fans have been speculating that with Game of Thrones possibly filming in Spain next season that we’ll be seeing a lot of Dorne, and based on the role breakdown that has surfaced, they’re right.

We’ll tuck the details below a cut as they will include some spoilers about next year. In season 5, the characters we’ll be seeing include:

  • Prince Doran Martell – Doran is described as the major new player this year, appearing in multiple episodes. The fiftysomething prince uses a wheelchair, is reclusive and rules wisely. It appears the show is looking to continue the trend it started with Pedro Pascal, and cast Latino actors for the Martell clan.
  • Prince Trystane Martell – Trystane, the handsome fiance of Princess Myrcella, is being aged up to 18.
  • Areo Hotah - Doran’s personal bodyguard will appear throughout the season, assisting the prince with his duties. The show is particularly looking for a black actor to fill the role.
The Sand Snakes, Oberyn Martell’s b*stard daughters (with ages ranging 18-25):

  • Obara Sand – The eldest and most athletic Sand Snake will be having a major fight scene with a series regular character- not one who crosses her path in the books. This is an interesting change.
  • Nymeria Sand – Nymeria is described as “mixed race,” with her father being the fairer Oberyn and her mother being darker skinned. The second oldest of these Sand Snakes, she’s beautiful, emotional and very strong.
  • Tyene Sand - The youngest of the Sand Snakes that we meet uses her wits and seductive powers, and is less of a physical fighter than the other Sand Snakes. She is just as deadly as her sisters, however, but her weapon is poison.

  • High Sparrow - The books’ pious head of a religious movement will be appearing in several episodes in season 5.
  • Septa Unella – The show is looking for a character actress to play the imposing and unrelenting septa who spends a lot of time with a major series character next year.
  • Maggy the Frog- A fortune teller in A Feast for Crows, she’ll be in one episode next year.
  • Lollys Stokeworth – Just last week in “Mockingbird,” Bronn announced his intention to marry Lollys, whom Tyrion considers “dimwitted.” It looks like the sellsword will still be around next year.
  • Yezzan - A sleazy Meereenese slave owner.
  • The Waif – The strange child from the books that Arya encounters will likely be played by an older actress, one in her later teens, and we understand the show is specifically looking for a woman of East Asian descent for the part.
Presently, HBO has declined to officially confirm any casting news.

Ours is the Fury: There may be more casting information trickling in, so this list is by no means complete. The show may have already filled some roles, and that is why some parts are not present. I do hope that Arianne will be cast though, because while some aspects of her plot could be handled by Sand Snakes, not all can. A legitimate princess who is the heir isn’t the same as a b*stard, so that is my only concern about casting. As for the Snakes, the show has established that Oberyn does have eight daughters, but we always knew we wouldn’t get to see all of them. Consolidating their personalities into three of them makes sense, I think.

More characters rumored being cast for season five

Casting for the fifth season of Game of Thrones carries on, and so does the rumor mill.

According to our unofficial sources, the show has been looking to cast a few more characters, in addition to the lengthy list that surfaced a couple weeks ago. We’ve learned they’re searching for:

Varamyr-Sixskins-300x252.jpg

Varamyr Sixskins

  • Varamyr: Dubbed Varamyr Sixskins in the book series, the wildling skinchanger initially appears in A Storm of Swords when he takes possession of the late Orell’s eagle, and takes on his scout role as well with Mance Rayder’s army. The book describes Varamyr as a small man, bald and grey-faced with round shoulders. The show is supposedly looking to cast an actor in the 35-45 year old age range. It’s unclear what position Varamyr will take on in the fifth season as his introduction point in the books has already passed in the show.
  • Imogen: A 12 year old blonde girl. It’s speculated that this may actually be the casting call for young Cersei. Given that there is no Imogen in the books, and we’ve heard that Game of Thrones is auditioning girls for the role of young Cersei, this seems likely.
  • Brunette girl: 12 years old. There’s no additional information about this part. For book-related possibilities, our best guess with regards to the role is probably Melara, a girl involved in young Cersei’s story with the fortuneteller Maggy the Frog.
The list of potential characters is unconfirmed by HBO at this time.

Ours is the Fury: Introducing Varamyr at this point is a little puzzling. It seems like it would’ve been a good idea to do that for season 4, but perhaps bringing in another warg is a sign that the show is going to focus more on developing warg abilities for other characters in season 5.

'Game of Thrones': Where Will Season 5 Go?

3:56 PM PDT 6/18/2014 by Aaron Couch

The Showrunners, directors and writers weigh in on the dark paths Cersei, Arya and Daenerys are headed down for next year.

arya_thehound.jpg

Game of Thrones has ended for now, and though the finale's departed characters are barely in their graves, what's the harm in looking ahead to season five?

The showrunners, directors and writers have dropped hints during previous interviews with The Hollywood Reporter, and we've compiled the best of them below.

1. Cersie will be "pissed off"

Director Alex Graves promises a very angry queen regent next year.

"Lena [Headey] is such a brilliant actor that I'm really into seeing what she’s going to do next," Graves says. "What do you think is going to happen when Cersei wakes up? Jaime set Tyrion free and he killed her father on the way out. She is going to be really pissed off. I don’t think I'm giving up anything if you think about what Cersei wakes up to in the morning."

2. It will continue to explore plot beyond the books

Director Michelle MacLaren oversaw the first episode to stretch significantly beyondGeorge R.R. Martin's novels. She credited the showrunners' vision: "It's exciting to see where they are going to go moving beyond the books, which is starting to happen more and more."

Showrunner David Benioff is a bit more guarded: "We have to make a show that succeeds on its own terms, and sometimes that means veering away from the books. Some people will be upset by that. Some people will like it. Obviously we hope for more of the latter, but if we ever write a scene (or avoid writing a scene) because we're afraid of pissing someone off, we're sunk."

3. The Boltons are in power

Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) is a Snow no more. He's officially Roose Bolton's (Michael McElhatton) heir, thanks to his role in capturing Moat Cailin.

"The Boltons have taken the North and they are now powerful. The man who helped carry out the Red Wedding has capitalized on his success in a very significant way," Graves says. "Ramsay and Roose — one of the things that really sets the tone for next year is they've really got some serious power going now."

4. Daenerys is in a "dark place"

Two of her dragons are imprisoned, Jorah is banished and even Daario is off in another city. In short, it's tough to be the queen.

"You are very much setting up next year, laying out that she is now alone. Everyone she had on the way up has been banished or sent away," Graves says. "She is in a very, very dark place that's going to lead into next year."

5. Arya's choice with the Hound defines her next steps

In one of the more heartbreaking scenes of the finale, Arya did not grant the dying wish of The Hound, even after he begged for death. The scene sets up what's next for her, says Graves.

"It's really important to show her moving on. The story isn't that the Hound is presumably dead. The story is that she is now moving on to adulthood on her own in a seemingly dark way," he says. "That is an important story to tell. She is about to take off on a bigger journey than she's ever been on."

6. We'll meet Oberyn's family

WinterIsComing.net recently posted a leaked casting breakdown, which calls for members of the slain prince's family to be involved. It's a safe bet we will see Dorne in upcoming episodes.

7. The writers have plenty of anxiety

Think you're having trouble without Thrones? Imagine the pressure of having to write the show.

"I'm terrified all the time. You're talking to me now as we're writing season five, and I'm at the stage where I think everything is going to be terrible," says writer Bryan Cogman. "I go through all seven stages of whatever a writer goes through. I'm a wreck when I'm writing the show. It's not until you see it air with an audience who enjoys it that you can finally relax."

Says Benioff: "If we're being honest, we worry about everything. Do you know how many anti-anxiety pills we chew every night?"

That's it for now, but stay tuned to THR in the coming months as more information comes out. Where would you like to see the show go next season? Let us know in the comments.

'Game of Thrones' showrunners talk season 5: 'There will be Dorne'

By James Hibberd on Jun 18, 2014 at 11:50AM

Podrick-Payne.jpg

Another epic season behind us, another promising season ahead. For the fifth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will draw inspiration from the fourth and fifth novels in George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire saga: A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons. (Each novel focuses on different characters while covering roughly the same period of time.)

On Sunday night, we posted the showrunners’ answers to some burning questions about Thrones’ game-changing finale. Below, our conversation continues as we shift the subject to next year. Who else can’t wait to see Jaime Lannister bust out that jetpack? (Note: The first portion of this interview was conducted by email, with the producers answering via joint statements.)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: We’ve come to a huge pivot point. George R.R. Martin originally conceived of his books as a trilogy, and the end of A Storm of Swordsfeels like the first and only natural breaking point in the saga. It also begins a stretch of storytelling that some fans feel isn’t as compelling as what came before it. What’s your take on season 5?
DAVID BENIOFF & DAN WEISS:
After finishing season 3, we were nervous about season 4—we’d been looking forward to the Red Wedding for so long that once we shot it, we feared everything beyond that would seem like an anti-climax. We grew less nervous when we outlined season 4, less nervous still when we wrote the episodes, and all nervousness evaporated when we saw the directors’ cuts and knew we had a great season in hand. For season 5, again, the fear started to dissipate when we outlined it and realized how much story we had to tell. Now that we’re nearly finished with the first drafts of each episode, we see no reason why the coming season shouldn’t be the strongest yet.

Each season has used material from books beyond where the bulk of that season’s story was set. Best I can figure, you’ll hit the end of Dance on most of the major storylines by the end of next season, if not before the end—and obviously you need to set up season 6, at the very least. Is the sense at this point that you know where the characters need to eventually end up, and so you’re just going to increasingly play your own game from here on out?
We have talked to George extensively about where he’s going with the books, and will continue to do so. His books are the blueprint for the world we’re building. Ultimately the show needs to work on its own terms, and keep on moving. Our job is to square that necessity with George’s work to the best of our ability.

Still thinking 7 seasons total?
Yep.

The production is going to Spain, and leaked casting breakdowns are full of Dorne characters. So can just assume we’re spending time in Dorne? And if so, what excites you about the Dorne storyline?
There will be Dorne, and we’re excited about it. Who wouldn’t want to hang out in Dorne? They have admirable values and priorities. And have you seen Oberyn’s coat?

This season we saw both Littlefinger and now Varys quit the crown to become rogue agents with uncertain agendas. Can you tease what these two are up to?
Littlefinger has been open with a few people about what he wants: Varys, Sansa, a few prostitutes, us. He wants everything. He wants to sit on that throne. By necessity, his path there will be twisted and indirect. But everything he does in some way points to that goal. As for Varys: Early in the season, when speaking with Tyrion, Varys claims to be concerned primarily with self preservation. At the end of the season, though, his actions prove otherwise. He throws away the entire life he’s built for himself in King’s Landing to save Tyrion’s life. Now what? … “Now what?” will become eminently clear in season 5.

One of the big surprises this season was the White Walker scene with Craster’s baby. Is it fair to assume that from here on out, fantasy elements increase each season given that, you know, winter is coming?
The characters will always be the thing. The scenes that make us most excited are often the ones that take place between two people in a room. That said… the White Walkers aren’t going away. The dragons aren’t getting any smaller. Melisandre’s still sorceressing, the giants are more pissed than ever, and Jaime’s almost done building his jetpack. So… yeah, the fantasy’s not going away. It is a fantasy show.

[Note: The rest of this transcript comes from an interview conducted months ago via phone, with a couple of these answers previously reported....]

With Stannis and Jon coming together in the finale, for the first time the series has started to contract after expanding. The characters have been spreading out, and now they’re starting to pivot to come back together. Is that an accurate read?
WEISS:
I think that’s really smart. It’s something we talk about a lot. It’s the mid-game point of working on the show; after having spent all this time developing all these divergent and separate interests, being able to bring people from disparate worlds together is intrinsically interesting. It’s almost like the engine that drives the middle ground of the show.
BENIOFF: It almost feels like this is the midpoint for us. If we’re going to go seven seasons, which is the plan, season 4 is right town the middle. It’s the pivot point, as you say. It’s been an expanding universe and will now start to contract. Which doesn’t mean we won’t meet any new characters in season 5, because we will. But it’s going to start to shrink for sure.
BENIOFF: We’re not going in strict order because we can’t. We can’t adapt Feast and leave out half our characters. We’ll be drawing heavily from Feast and Dance in season 5.

You know George’s ending for the saga. Non-specifically, do you feel the saga’s ending is creatively satisfying? Is it an ending you’re excited to work toward?
BENIOFF
: Absolutely, yes.
WEISS: 100 percent.
BENIOFF: And I feel we have so many conversations about later seasons. And this year we’ve started talking about the very end. One of the lessons of Breaking Bad, which had a phenomenal final season, phenomenal entire series—you really get the sense [creator Vince Gilligan] went into it with a story in mind and achieved that. We want this to work.

Is there a character on this show whose loss would really zap a lot of the life from the series?
BENIOFF:
There are some characters who will die that I won’t think people will predict. And as George has said, we’re killing off more characters than in the books and will continue to do so.
WEISS: There are several characters whose loss will do that. But it doesn’t mean they won’t die.

Martin also has a development deal at HBO, and there have been rumors of a project in the world of Thrones. Any chance of a spin-off, prequel?
WEISS:
We have not talked about that.
BENIOFF: If that happens, it’s up to HBO and George. It’s not something I would be a part of. We’re interested in A Song of Ice and Fire.
WEISS: This is like three full-time jobs. The idea of trying to develop something in addition to that in this world wouldn’t make sense at this point.

Do you have a sense of what you guys want to do after Game of Thrones?
BENIOFF AND WEISS [in unison]:
Sleep.

Which you both answer at same time…
BENIOFF:
It’s the easiest question you’ve asked since we first met you.

Myrcella recast rumored

Nell-Tiger-Free.jpg

The merry-go-round of casting continues into season five, it seems! We’ve learned through unofficial sources that when King Tommen’s big sister returns to our screens in season five, she’ll have a new face.

Princess Myrcella Baratheon was last seen in season two being shipped off to Dorne in tears. WiC‘s unofficial sources have confirmed that Northern Irish actress Aimee Richardson, who originated the role of the princess, will not be returning next year. Rumor has it that English actress Nell Tiger Free will be taking on the role. If these rumors are correct, this will be second Baratheon recasting, with Dean-Charles Chapman taking over the role of Tommen in season four.

Nell Tiger Free is best known for starring as Chloe in the BBC adaptation of Mr. Stink. The actress also recently guest-starred on an episode of the crime series Endeavour.

HBO has declined to comment on any casting at this time.

Mild season five spoilers are tucked below the cut:

Our sources are telling us that Myrcella’s betrothal to Prince Trystane of Dorne will be played up in season five, with the princess falling in love with the handsome young prince. She’ll have a substantially increased, romantic role compared to her part in A Feast for Crows.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
my predictions on next season

i think the queen will go batshyt... she still hates margery so i can see her shutting down that wedding completely.. and putting the hit out on her brother.. or maybe both...

vary's almost got his ear to the streets so i wonder what his move is gonna be.. can't team up with khaleesi cause she knows jorah was sending letters

tyrion basically gotta start over.. i haven't seen any other imps besides at the wedding.. so i'm guessing it'll be impossible to hide... and he's broke too... shoulda just left with shae when you had the chance.. at least you'd have money

khaleesi... who the fukk knows.. she gonna have to capture or kill that dragon.. and i don't see that happening without a shytload of losses going down

jon snow can't leave the wall but the red bytch got plans for that nikka

stannis i can see trying to unify the north and heading down south.. which would mean warring with the boltons and the freys

the mountain about to be on some cyborg, robocop, frankenstein type shyt

and arya bout to be full on goon squad with a team of killers... i don't think anybody gonna fukk with her.. seems all of bravvos respects that coin

and for the record... it's been target since her butt naked ass hopped in the tub and joined up with the native americans.... i mean dothraki's... and where the fukk they been at???

The majority of them rolled out after Drogo died. A few stayed and got killed in Qa'arth(the greatest city that ever was and will be) when the warlocks and Project Pat stole the dragons. The remaining ones are :flabbynsick: staying with Kelly-C on some :feedme:

Well the broad is pretty damn powerful now. She ain't even try to send her dothraki to try and talk with these other 99.9k of them

Can't remember how they showed it on tv but in the books when Drogo dies, one of his top leiutenants(can't remember what they're called in the books) rolled out and formed his own Khalasar, taking the majority of Drogo's khalasar with him.

The reason they ain't treat with Dany is cause they ain't on no peace shyt. If they come, it will be to conquer not join forces. If she sends her remaining Dothraki to try and parlay with them, they're good as dead. Plus Khal Pono(I think that's his name) ain't trying to give up command of his khalasar to bow down to some "westorosi whore"

10 months away man :sadbron:

its gonna be a good season though. i just hope people can keep up with all the new characters. as the season gets closer ill try to give you guys spoiler free character backgrounds on confirmed characters. ill give u one now.

prince doran martell - oberyn's older brother. he is a very smart leader. has gout which is a disability that affects the joints, so he cant walk. he is in a wheelchair all day or being carried in one of those palanquin i think they are called. he has a bodyguard by the name of areo hotah who is some huge brolic dude who is married to an axe. he's older than oberyn and elia by alot of years, i think like 17 or something. he was almost a grown man when they were born. so he might be played by an older man. i would say oberyn was like 38 so doran is probably gonna appear to be in his mid 50s. he has 3 kids. (1 or 2 might be cut out from the show. dont google any of them because u will spoil yourself). Arianne is his oldest, then Quentyn, then Trystane who is betrothed to myrcella. He is no longer married and his ex-wife is from one of the free cities of essos where she moved back to. I want to say Tyrosh but it might be norvos im not sure.

also a little background on dorne

dorne is the last of the 7 kingdoms to come into the fold. the targaryens were never able to conquer them. they did once, but not for long. the dornish are kind of like the taliban and al qaeda in the way they fight. they hide in the mountainous desert and only jump out to strike before running back into their caves. they have their cities too but they abandon them during wars and hide out. the only way the targaryens were able to bring dorne into the 7 kingdoms was by marriage. there are a few targaryen-martell marriages throughout the history of westeros.

there are 3 types of dornishmen with differing appearances depending on where they live. salty dornishmen live on the coastline and are the better sailors, sandy dornishmen live in the deserts, and stony dornishmen live in the mountains. the dornish descend from the rhoynar, so they arent first men like the northerners or andals like the other 5 kingdoms. they are their own type of people. in dorne, the oldest child is first in the line of inheritance despite their sex. also, b*stards dont get looked down on because the country is very sexually liberated. women dont even have to be virgins before marriage, everybody is just having sex all the time (which is why im hyped for the dornish women :takedat: nikkas gonna be like "khaleesi who?")

this is a map of dorne
