If both buy into being playmakers in D'Antoni's system, it could work.
Probably not even the best backcourt in the league TODAY with Steph and Klay out here.
Historically though, we've got Clyde/Pearl, Magic/Norm Nixon, Magic/B. Scott, Isiah/Dumars, Tim/Mitch, Jerry West/Goodrich, Parker/Ginobili, as far as on paper and actual accomplishment goes, in some sort of consideration.
But as far as actual on court accomplishments, particularly before they came together, this is probably the GOAT backcourt, since both guys have been MVP candidates in the VERY recent past (Harden obviously last year, CP3 only a couple of years ago himself). I don't see it working out as well as it should based on paper though.

Pringles makes it a priority to stagger minutes so he always has a good unit out there, that's why Lou/Gordon hardly ever played minutes with Harden
