I don't know anything about music, but those seemed like some basic questions a "genius" like Pharrell should have been able to answer.
And his discomfort seemed like discomfort stemming from a lack of knowledge, not as someone who is being asked questions he deems "beneath" him.
I can see now why they lost.

Pretty spot on in my opinion, he is a musical "genius" but has little to no formal knowledge or training in music.

But it's weird. He was quoted as saying he used the pentatonic structure (which I know nothing about), but then when showed some notes he says:
"I'm not comfortable"
That would be like me saying "I wrote this movie, but I wanted to take the 4 act structure and do it in reverse". The someone asks "Tell me what the 4 act structure is?" and my answer is:
