I honestly don't know where these stats come from. Im in bedstuy everyday, yes it is gentrifying, yes the rents are shooting up, but if you're east of Tompkins ave (which accounts for 70% of the massive neighborhood), the overwhelming majority of people you see are black.

One thing I will say though is little blacks are moving in. The population of blacks come from old homeowners, and families who've been here a long time.

From the Clinton Hill border to Nostrand/Marcy ave it's damn near 80% cac though.

Its a cycle tho these hipster are really just wanna be cultured yuppies chasing authenticity in their dull lives so they invade cultured neighbourhoods and change the demographic and wipe out the real personality of the places they live in. In no time all their hoods will look the same. No diversity no culture just souless consumerism and a false belief in individuality while expressing quite the opposite. Hipsters and their ironic existence smh

San Francisco been gentrifying their areas since the 80's. Hipsters were around for that long?

Like I said in another topic, people living in these bad neighborhoods did nothing all these years to make their neighborhood better, now that other people are coming in and making it better, they want to cause a ruckus. Low income people don't even have the decency to keep their apartments/buildings/neighborhoods clean.

Their entire lives have been completely funded by the government and landlords who are stuck with them because of old laws..fukk you expect when you own NOTHING?

I was fukking with until the second paragraph.

Everyone isn't on gubment assistance or rents.

The people who owned those properties and sold them to the cacs are the ones to blame, but even then can you blame them? Black people with bread aren't buying up these spots, so it's hard to get mad at the cacs and jews who do it. The run down and downtrodden buildings being bought up by them should have by done YEARS ago by our people, but we aint do shyt.

Can't get mad at the cacs doing it now when we haven't done shyt to keep it to ourselves.

While I get the hate behind gentrification, what's the alternative? Let shyt continue to go down and stay eyesores/shytty?

Why don't y'all just say damn near every major city cause its going on all over. This is actually a great time though if you into real estate for the foreseeable future. A friend of a friend is doing numbers in Philly capitalizing off of this wave an its also life. Back in the day neighborhoods that were all white became all black when they moved to the burbs now its a switch. One day it will happen again that's just how it goes.

Tariq done fukked some of y'all up real good. You can't have real discussions if you goto bullshyt accusations as soon as someone doesn't agree with your stance. Dude didn't have to say it as harsh knowing how people get emotional but he does have a point.

Exactly but why should the people that sold them to whites be blamed? Its not like blacks can't buy these spots up because if you look some of these spots are cheap as shyt to buy and do work on. Like I said in a previous post I know somebody doing good off exactly that. Cats see opportunities and just let them pass by while complaining. I don't get that. Every time its change in anything its a chance to do good $$$ for yourself we just need to get with it and stop worrying about something that will always happen regardless.

Nah, that was a bullshyt generalization. I don't listen to that c00n tariq whatever his name is or any of those other guys on youtube they're just as bad as snake oil salesmen.

You guys take this extreme stances to demonize your own people and A.) don't know what you're talking about or B.) fail to look at the issues surrounding it.

New York was under complete urban decay and social blight for decades. In Bed Stuy Viet Nam Vets were given houses for $1 in Bedstuy because so many were vacant and to help clean up the area. The upkeep on a lot of these buildings costs a fortune, a lot of them were built in the late 1880s early 1900's. As a "community" our income was never on par with other groups. We were also subjected to decades of the "Drug War" which saw a lot of young people imprisoned. With that said there is still a lot of black ownership in these neighborhoods of homes, apartment buildings, and businesses which can't be understated . Have some people sold and moved? Yeah. But not nearly as many as the media convinces you to believe. I live in Brooklyn and I've seen a lot of changes some negative some positive. But to say there is a compete flight of black home ownership and businesses is a lie. If anything there is renaissance and a lot of opportunity here.

These neighborhoods have a ton of personality and I hope they stay way. I love where I live.

A lot of the houses are extremely expensive to buy and renovate by my standards even, I do it for a living. There are blacks out here doing a good deal of buying and renovating and renting or flipping but a lot of it is hedge funds, real estate companies, and to a much lesser extent some wealthy whites creating single family homes for themselves.

Poverty is one hell of a drug. Combine gov't handouts that restrict opportunity for growth with little employment opportunities and you end up with blight and crime. It's easy to say "oh these people had the opportunity and they did nothing". Fact is businesses avoided these places, except for liquor stores and Chinese food, but as soon as a few whites move in you end up with Starbucks and target. Once that happen property owners raise rent and force poor tenants out. Therein the problem lies. To me the answer is opportunity and until disenfranchised people are given that things will never change.

You don't listen to Tariq but using his stuff gotcha. Also stop with the emotional posting where is this extreme stance from ME not that other dude. Focus my man focus. I get in trouble for this alot but I just believe people for the most part are responsible for what they go through or not in life because with all these things you mapped out most of us are not statistics and examples that you can rise above the bullshyt. Not all of us because we are from all different backgrounds but its enough of us where eventually all the reasons we are held back become excuses. You can disagree but I believe we can and should do more and when you let people use excuses valid or not you stifle growth. I know not everybody uses it as a crutch also but to save anybody from using it if you are able bodied its no excuse for you and others not to make moves period. When there is a will there's a way and we need to align ourselves with people that get this

Well yeah, not everyone is...but the majority are.

The real point is, when you don't own, things like this do happen.

And the ones who are complaining the most are the ones that fukked up their own neighborhood
