MBS tryna build an alternate reality where Saudi is a powerful independent actor, that doesnt cowtow to the West. Seeing the jingoistic language they are using, its clear these moves are aimed at a domestic audience. Nothing like a foreign target, with "plots" to interfere in internal affairs to circle around the flag.
They can afford to do with Canada because the ties are limited, and the few dealings they do have (defence, education) will have alternative sellers in the West. Very amateurish diplomacy on display. The country is supposedly transitioning from an oil economy, and to do so they will need foreign investment. No one is investing in a country this unpredictable and impulsive on their policy actions.
