Why African Americans should not celebrate the Fourth of July. When America gained its Independence Day from Great Britain in 1776, Our ancestor slaves were still in bondage under a racist white man's whip. Fast forward to July 2016, we STILL are NOT FREE! How can we celebrate liberty when African Americans still face the remnants of White Supremacy. Mass Incarceration, Massive unemployment, redlining and being "legally" killed by those who are sworn to protect all of its citizens. While we are sooooo happy to fill our shopping carts with food, liquor, charcoal, sweat over a grill, dance to music, and call it a "good time", it is only a delusion. We will only be free when we demand our full rights and I do not mean by protests and marching. Nope. That will not get it. Your greatest weapon is your wallet and purse. Thats right. Cooperative Economics is "REAL" power and the oppressor knows this. We as a black people are so predictable. When we awaken on Tuesday morning July 5, 2016, The racist monster stands at full attention ready to steal and kill.Just letting you know that the black man is not truly free. White Supremacy can be described as a long unending tunnel that has no limitations. If it is to be, it is up to us. Time for America to make good on its "Bad Check" Time for the "sleeping negro" to wake up!

Yes. We are sleep walking in La La land, dancing a drinking all surrounded by rainbows, green grass, white picket fences and little pink and white bunnies hopping all over the place, while our whole infrastructure as a Race is burning down around us. Blacks are not as free as we would like to think. When they so called gave us our freedom, they deliberately made note that we were only free unless a prisoner. That's why there is mass incarceration of Blacks. I'm not attacking you, just putting that mind state on the fore front and questioning it. As black people we should not be waiting for a Caucasian holiday to enjoy ourselves or family. If work schedule is a problem then we should question why we don't work for us.

Hi Brandon. please realize that some of us will forever be lost and far removed from the cause. White Supremacy will continue to have a field day with non conscious blacks. It is very easy to get lost in indivdualistic delusion.

You better know the history and meaning of the holidays you are celebrating and where your place was in during these holidays. The perfect books for people whom do not know about these European/American holidays and their history are called AfriKan People and European Holidays: A mental Genocide by Ishakamusa Barashango books 1-3.

Its not all about popping off firecrackers , keeping up a bunch of noise and barbecuing. Of course black ppl should not celebrate but I do understand its a day off and black ppl should reflect on other things that day. I tell any black person that utters happy 4th of july to me to listen to Fredrick Douglas speech of what is the 4th of July to the Negro. Unfortunately alot of black ppl have a maternal and paternal relationship with white ppl, whatever white mommy and daddy do, we follow vicariously like sheep. It has to stop.

My reason is a little deeper than black people still being in bondage.

Independence Day represents what black people of today should be doing. Revolting against injustices and taxation without representation. Wtf are "our" senators and representatives doing on Capitol Hill? The Colony simply named America went to war. I don't call for war. No one should be getting killed under "most" circumstances but there needs to be upheaval. Boston Tea Party anyone?

Pisses me off when any black person says the truth about oppression and injustice, a cracker and even some black people, will jump and say "race-baiting or stirring the pot". Got damn right because it isn't right.

Isn't that what Independence Day is about? The fireworks represent war. The national anthem is about war. Started a war to fight back against their oppressors and injustice.
Why they made all that trouble and ruckus? Suppose to be good ol boys to the king of England.

Any person especially anglo who is against black people speaking out on any platform better be against the very foundations of the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution and the national anthem.
