should i join karate for self defense?

I have zero experience in the marital arts. Is it a good idea to join karate? or other forms of fighting such as boxing?

or is it wise to just buy a gun for self protection along with a vest? that seems the most logically thing.

There has to be a boxing or mma gym in your area. They are everywhere. Any big cities or towns close to you?

boxing/mma for quicker-to-apply self-defense lessons. you do any other martial arts, you'll be learning about forms more so than basic/fundamentals work. you'll be working on the fundamentals for the discipline but not necessarily for defense and fighting.

Boxing, Muay Thai for striking and for grappling, Judo, Brazilian JuJitsu.

Most karate and Kung Fu schools will get you killed as it takes years to be okay. Going the mma route will make you a problem in a year or so if you train with intensity.

You should ALWAYS be your OWN weapon, in the event that you are not WITH your firearm. Boxing/MMA will do that for you, you'll be a walking weapon.
