Celtics president of basketball ops Danny Ainge said the team has had informal talks about retiring Garnett’s number, but that no final decision has been made yet.

Per ESPN:

“Without a doubt, KG’s number will be [the next one] retired in Boston,” said Pierce. “It’s going to happen.”

Pierce’s was the 22nd number retired by the Celtics. Some argue that Garnett, who played six seasons in Boston after being acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves, didn’t have a long enough tenure to have his jersey retired.

“It was six years of potential championship-caliber teams and All-Star play from KG,” said Ainge. “I think that it was a pretty significant impact he had in those six years.”

“[Garnett would] rather have his jersey retired in Boston than in Minnesota,” said Pierce. “He’ll eventually have his number retired with the Timberwolves, too, but he’ll have to wait until management sells the team.”

Hell yeah. KG is a Legend in Boston. His year in Boston’s n will be remembered more than his years in Minnesota just like Ray Allen time in Boston(Ray Number shouldn’t be retired tho). They didn’t have the great numbers as earlier in their careers but they had ALOT of memorable moments.

Yes and here's why.
He played for them for 6 years while it's not a decade it's not like he just passed through Boston and had a cup of tea. He was a big part of a championship team and they went to the finals for a couple more years. The days of winning 4-5 titles every decade is over. Pierce and KG should be the only Celtics from the 2000-2020 era to get there jerseys retired.

2 Finals Appearances, 3 ECF appearances after nearly 2 decades of ineptitude...with KG’s defensive tenacity making up the majority of the team’s DNA.

I know Paul was Mr. Clutch and the longest tenured member, but KG was the heart and soul leader of the team’s most prosperous era since the 80s.

Yea he was with the team 6 years but Shaq was only a Laker for 8 years and they retired his number. Minus the 3 to 1 ring difference, their impacts on the organizations were relatively similar. Just sucks KG didn’t go there sooner.
