You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.
You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

3 month deal is not bad if you are going to use it like that, I guess. Probably wont be buying it tho, as I still have a jailbroken OG 60gig ps3. And if I really wanna play a ps3 game on the ps4, ill most likely just rent that one game.

Playstation now is garbage to me. I ride for my PS4 but this is :scust:. Cut the rental crap and let me just BUY the few old gen games I want digitally on my PS4.

I don't think it's crap, but I do agree that there should be an option to buy as well. I could see them saying that you can only buy it to play on the PS4, whereas the Now service allows for play on other devices like they've been touting it for.

$180 a year to RENT some old gen games? Nah man, I can't. I got too many local game stores that have the oldies to own for WAY less. The only reason I would want them digitally is to play them on my vita on the go whenever I want. I don't want the pressure of feeling like I have to hurry up and beat this game by whenever before the rental is up. I'm not knocking anyone that sees the value in this, I'm just saying it's not for me. It may be too much to ask, but if Sony wanted to do some serious damage to the Xbox One, they should make this service free, as part of the PS+ membership considering they aren't letting you actually keep any of these games anyway.

Considering that you can play these games on not just ps4, but even pcs/laptops and vitas (I think it was even rumored or initially stated to be accessible on tablets as well, not 100% on that one tho), I can see a reason that it's a chargeable service. I do think that having PS+ should have a PS+Now sort of purchaseable option for the year, for like an added 25-40 bucks or so and I'd be fine with that.

I get that they're old game, but it's a very convenient way to access hundreds of these old games, some of which are still selling individually for 20-60 bucks alone. Gamers sometimes seem to have a unrealistic viewpoint of things. Cats be wanting dozens of AAA games to come out a year, but want them to only be sold for a quarter of their retail value/worth and still liablet o bootleg them nonetheless.

There was no way this was gonna be "free" unless ps+ subscribtion price was increased, by a lot. Maybe a new tier will bundle it in and give a slight sub discount.

They paid ~400 million for Gakai ( service this is based off of)

and they also have to pay the publishers license fees for allowing you the option to rent the game, wether said game gets played or not.

To be fair tho, they really have to find a way to let you use your already purchased games as a DRM of sorts for games on PS now.
